Hi:

I have a 2007 FJR bought brandnew and has 11.000 kms. Since a time I have noticed that the engine whistles, independently whether in standstill or during a tour( so, not windshield or helmet or wind, etc) .It comes from the from and right side of the tank, is sharp and continuously. When I use the indicator or press the hand- or foot brake, the whistle hear sharper (maybe related to the electric system?)

My last FJR in 2005 did not have this sound. Yamaha Dealer said to me, it would be normal and it would comes from the electronic Inyection system.

Are they right? Do other drivers FJR have same experiences with this sound(clay)?

Maybe the starter. Thank´s in advice.

I add my email

Does the whistle sound like an air whistle, an electrical noise or a metallic noise?

An Electronic Ignition System shouldn't whistle.

If it is an air sound there is a good possibility that the problem is a leak in the air box. The air box is made of two parts, the large housing that the air filter goes in and a front plate that the 4 intake runners attach to. The front plate has a large seal that should make it air tight. A small leak would whistle. You should have this checked because a leak in this part of the air box would let unfiltered (dirty) air into your engine.

If it is an electrical sound the ABS pump and fuel pump are in that area.

Well, this is a couple of guesses to get the ball rolling.

The sound hear like an air whistle, but maybe similar to the sound you hear when your put your ignition ON and you wait to give the star botton. In the daily life it hears like a tea-pot boiling but with changes when I use the turn button or the brakes (the sound turns sharper).

Thank´s

Rudy

Wasn't there a problem with the windshield bracket whistling?
Just a thought.
Good thought, wrong answer :) It happens at a standstill.

Sounds like the windshield washer pump.
[/clue] The washer pump would only run when the button is pressed. If the windshield is not wet the pump is not running. Checkswrecks, put your key in the reservoir cap and open it, use a match to look in and see if the reservoir is full. [/clue]

I thought this was about something you stuck in a spark plug hole, akin to clothespin fastening playing cards to rattle against the spokes.

Ion's got a point there.....try that....

If not, it's probably the a/c compressor running. Turn all the heat/airconditioning systems off and see if it's still there.

Mine makes a whistling sound for a fraction of a second when the engine is started. As soon as I let off the starter button it stops.

Hi

After 5 days the Yamaha Dealer delivered my motorcycle. They dismounted it, scanned and finally, with help of a Japanese Mechanical technician visiting Chile, concluded that the noise corresponds to a normal noise that comes from the electronic fuel injection. They rejected problems of the airbox, windshield, fuel- and ABS pump.

I am grateful sincerely for your help. Of three visited forums ( https://fjr1300ownersassociation.yuku.com/ , https://www.fjr-1300.de ) this one was where I obtained support. Thank´s again.
