I remember that Lorenzo practice crash. There was no mention of it by the commentators, but the size his shoulders had suddenly attained made it obvious that his suit had inflated.

As for the big bags on the belly and back, I dunno. Part of motorcycle crashing is rolling, not sliding, and I'm not sure being catapulted into the air by those giant balloons would be a good thing.

The collar device didn't really look all that useful. The joint protection provided by the one Lorenzo had would be preferable to me, I think.

I don't recall the brand, but I saw one such at the Progressive show last month (and available now, contrary to your linked article). You could buy their jacket with the inflatable vest built in, or just the vest or belt you'd wear over your own gear (has to be over so it has room to inflate). It reminded me of the kind of safety belt you see on cops directing traffic--over the shoulders, connected in the front like a 4-point harness, protection for the spine and a collar something like a skier's vest. You would still roll with this inflated, seemed to be very tough (in terms of not popping on impact), easy to replace the oversized CO2 cartridge, and not all that expensive, either. Seems like it was somewhere in the $200's. I think if I knew I'd be crashing, I'd be sure to put it on. Couldn't hurt.
