Can someone recommend a good guide to motorcycle camping? I searched Amazon but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I'm interested in a book that has a guide to MC friendly campgrounds & motels. What I'm not looking for is a "how to" guide since I have a lot of experience in backpacking...seems to me that MC camping will be a lot like hiking the backcountry...just a lot faster.

Thanx.

I am not sure that such a guide exists or is even necessary. I have camped all over the western states and British Columbia for the last 20 years and have yet to encounter a campground that was not MC friendly -- they want your business since the only additional expense they have as a result of your visit is the cost of hot water for a shower. Things are changing however, it used to be that I could camp and usually have several other motorcyclists to chat with, now it seems like I am usually the only motorcyclist in the campground -- the others are all staying at motels. Signs that touring motorcyclists are getting older and the younger riders never go on trips on their sportbikes.

MY idea of camping out is the top floor of the Fairmount..........And you can always pick up a good room in a 4 star hotel for around $100 on Priceline.com.........

Amazon has a book called "The Best in Tent Camping: Northern California, 2nd: A Guide for Campers Who Hate RVs, Concrete Slabs, and Loud Portable Stereos" (ISBN 0897323998), with other volumes for Washington state and Oregon.

The Auto Club also has "Camping Books" covering all 50 states and most Canadian provinces, with listings of camp grounds (including number of tent and RV-style sites, showers, stores, etc.) and maps - like their Tour Books, but specific to camping instead of hotels/motels.

check out cyclefish.com

there are listings for campgrounds for motorcycles and other stuff like gear !!!

I looked through the Whitehorse Press catalog...no such luck. AAA produces campground guides, but the CA book alone is rather ponderous, I can't imagine carrying 2 or 3 states. How about checking with KOA or one of those organizations. They would have a list of "their" campgrounds.

Thanx for the replies.

I'm planning a long trip for next summer and thought I might pre-plan some camping stops. So, rather than carry a "ponderous" Auto Club camping book, I'll just "wing it." That's probably more interesting anyway.

if you really need an itinerary, post up where you're going and let the forum members help you with some spots. i usually just find some general destinations and possible camping site locations online beforehand and print out a couple sheets of paper (rather than a book), and then pick when i get there.

if you're out west, make sure you check out https://www.pashnit.com/ for roads.

fwiw:

this tent this

pad

a tarp and a fleece bag like this all fit into 1 hard bag.

That's a great idea. Locals might know good camping spots and would be THE people to ask about "fun" roads in their area.
