Very good stuff, IMO. I knew a lot of that, but a LOT I did not know.

But if all the components on your bike were at the maximum tolerance and they were all pulling the AFR in the same direction you could have a bike that runs 8% leaner or 8% richer than the preprogrammed value.

The above part I did NOT know but should have suspected. Just like when all the tolerances of the weight of a connecting rod, wrist pin, and piston are each a little heavier or lighter than 'normal" you can end up with an engine with significantly more vibration than "normal".

I assume that this is how some of our FJR's end up getting in the mid to high 40's in gas mileage when most of us are happy with low 40"s.

I was NOT happy learning, according to the article, that though my aftermarket exhaust would not 'hurt" my FJR, it could/would affect my F/A ratio in all but "closed mode" operation. Is PART of my unhappiness with the ON/OFF throttle symptoms on my 07 the result of me wanting a little more noise?

 
Thanks John for posting. It helps to explain why I get better fuel economy in the heat of the summer than at this time of the year.
