Well, I don't know. But glad you posted that link. Thinking heavily of getting the htc hd2, as soon as I get over being forced to pay the internet charge....and was just

thinking of what mounts would be good on the bike.

That one looks solid to me...and just might push me getting over the x-tra charge.

Thought about it. Have the HTC. The issue with it is at least for me, the screen is too small to really read easily while riding. I use the Garmin 550 and learned not to depend on the verbal prompts (They tend to be about 30 ft late all the time).. I don't know. I hear the iphone works really well. Maybe after verizon get's it and my contract for upgrade is over I will convert...

Just went on a search for the best mounting system for my iPhone. The general consensus from the forum is don't do it.

The vibration of the handle bars will destroy the phone and (if you have one) the hard drive. The devise is exposed to the elements

and is impossible to read and use. The best solution is to keep it in your pocket and use headphones. I found a wireless remote that

allows me to use the devise and keep just the remote available.. Phone stays in the pocket, safe and sound and your not trying to reed a little

screen when you should be riding the bike. Just a thought........

Be safe!!

...wife got a droid 5 days ago. It made it a whole FIVE days before she dropped it in the dog's water bowl last night (36 hrs before her water resistant case was to arrive)!

It was a freak accident but damnit!

I removed the battery, dried it out and then had a fan on it for 24 hrs. I just powered it up and it appears to be fine except for some very, very faint ghosting in the lower right hand side of the LCD. I removed the battery and put it back under the fan. Tomorrow it will sit int he window and soak up some warm sun rays.

OK, rant off. Thatnks for the link because I was wondering how I Might mount it to her bike.

I decided to buy the mounting system from Techmount. It works great! I'm very happy with the quality of the product. I put together a little "how to" just in case you are considering buying one. Total install time 4 hours because I had to go searching for a 36 mm socket! If I had had the socket in the first place, install time would have been about 20 minutes.

Enjoy. :yahoo:

Man, that looks tempting.

Three concerns I have.

#1) Security. If I accidentally leave it on the bike (something I'm known to do), what's stopping anyone from just popping it off and taking it?

#2) Touch screen won't work with gloves. Personally I like using the internet radio like Pandora or Slacker. It'd be nice to still able to skip songs.

#3) Sunlight readability.

I don't see a way around the touch screen aspect. Basically my other thought is feeling the audio into my J&M setup and get a Bluetooth remote. I could still use the GPS and rely on the voice instructions (although seeing the map might be nice). But essentially leaving it in the glove compartment so if I do walk away, it's locked up.

Baby steps. I just got my J&M installed.

#1 Don't leave it.

#2 I use my Scala Q2 for radio so it is a non issue for me. But a firm press on the screen with gloves works for me. However, I never do any adjustments while riding. I stop, remove my gloves, enter my destination, then continue on.

#3 The screen is fairly readable at high noon. Good enough for navigation. Certainly as good as any other GPS device with a touch screen.

So far, I'm really happy with the setup. I like the fact that when I can see who is calling me. So, if it is my wife, I can pull over and talk. If it is my boss wondering why I'm late to work...I keep riding. B)

Just a tip you probably didnt ask for , but if you put it in a zip-lock bag with one of those desiccant packets (moisture drying) it will suck any remaining moisture out of your phone and battery.

Yeah, I used to keep a tupperware bowl of those for just such cases but wife threw it out not too long ago thinking it was junk.

The good news is her phone fully recovered and had no issues whatsoever. You gotta have some luck and some patience for that to happen.

Got the RAM finger holder... it works with the Droid very well and allows me to mount the Droid without taking off my protective cover. However, not sure the Droid is going to work very well on the bike. The screen doesnt work well at all with gloves... that is a huge limiting factor for me. It is also readable but only just so in bright sunlight with the screen brightness at maximum level.

I still think I will get good use out of my Droid with the My Tracks application, music (Slacker and Pandora plus lots of MP3s), and of course phone but I do not think it will be replacing my cheap Garmin Nuvi 350 just yet. When I get the Starcom1 Advance a member of this forum is sending me to test out (THANKS!) I will hook it all up and see how that works. Droid doesnt yet have auto answer which is a problem as well.
