The only customer for this (nice) bike is the rider with too much money who wants distinction. Why can't an established American bike builder produce an ST that with scale and production efficiencies is affordable and price competitive? I have hope that Indian might take a look at the segment. The Scout power train might/could be the basis.

Very low volume production is very expensive. The company has to amortize the tooling and fixtures over a small number of bikes and there are the indirect costs of engineering, testing, salaries and administration. Purchasing materials is expensive when you don't build enough to get a volume discount. This bike has been accruing expenses for bunch years that have to be accounted for with a tiny sales volume.

While the cost of the bike is way out of line for the market I would bet that they aren't making money even at $30k. Hopefully this is a loss leader that will generate enough sales revenue to get Motus to the next step. Investors are expecting to get some return on their money.

6. It's behind the times on nearly every level except the engine and the suspension and for all I know it is behind the times on those two things.
Well, the engine is a two valves per cylinder design with pushrods (OHV) like V-8 engines were in 1947. At least it has hydraulics for the valves. It is a shame it has a chain but a shaft would have added quite a bit to the price and weight.

Rider magazine has got a pretty detailed review of this bike in current issue (or most recent maybe - I'm a little behind on my reading - too much RIDING).

510-ish pounds with 125 pd.ft of torque? Uh yeah - this baby will be going through some tires very quickly.

I'd love to see the 3-way adjustable handlebars more closely. That is a great idea that will hopefully translate to other motorcycles.

But it's hard to see $30,000.00-plus worth of bike, there.

IF I had the cash I would still go for this over the BMW 6. I don't care what the magazines try to convince me of, NOTHING with 6 cylinders is a SPORT-tourer.

Interesting bike- I'd like to ride one for an afternoon. The target customer for it is the guy who wants to be the first on his block to have the latest, most unobtanium thing, take it to rider hangouts and bike nights to allow others to oooh and aaah over it. But for the sake of the jobs created, I hope they make it. Maybe the price will come down to reality some day.
