Pierre,

Here is a place in Intervale, NH, right off of Rt 16, not very far from Mt. Washington.

It is clean and cheap (but not fancy). Lot's of good places to eat nearby.

We've stayed there multiple times in the winter for family ski vacations.

If you'd like a small step up from that, try this place.

It's even closer to Mt WAshington and a bit nicer and a bit pricier, though still not bad.

Recommended eateries:

https://www.redparkapub.com/rpp-about.htm $$ (good pub grub)

https://www.thompsonhouseatery.com/ $$$ (casual, a bit elegant fare, but very good)

I stayed at the Town and Country Inn in Gorham, NH twice, once last week and once the week before. Rooms are clean and the rates are not bad, I believe it was close to $50/night. Its on US-2 about a half mile east of the NH-16 junction. There is a good restaurant on-site and all the amenities including wi-fi.

From S&T:

T&C Motel

20 US-2

Gorham NH 03581

just home from Maine.

If you're in Intervale, You may want t check out the following roads just for fun:

Hurricane Mountain Rd, east fro Intervale to Chatham. Not to long but very steep (in spots) and twisty curvy, like a rollercoaster.

Also Evans Notch (Rt 113) road, north of the east end of Hurricane(check a map, I'm not sure of details). Its a beautiful tree covered, scenic route along the NH-ME border. Come out in Maine west of Bethel, east of Gorham NH. Very pleasant.

Have fun!

Best places to stay are in Jackson. The Hotel and Bretton Arms are overpriced (mildew and filthy rugs) and not worth it anyway 'cause you won't find a decent meal.
