Well....after three years on the Central CA Coast, the USAF has found me a new home.........Italy.........specifically, Ghedi AB (located in the Lombardia Province of northern Italy). Naturally, I'm really happy.....Ghedi was my #2 choice for next assignment. Wifey is happy too...

Of course, I'll be taking my '05 FJR with me.....it's still under the original factory warranty and I had planned to purchase an extended YES Warranty within the next few months. However, now I'm not so sure. Does anyone know if Yamaha dealerships in Italy will honor an extended warranty purchased in the states? I intend to call Cypress and ask some questions, but thought I would check with you folks first.

In related news.....I had my new Avons mounted yesterday and following the recommendation of everyone on the board I checked the driveshaft splines. The splines were remarkably well lubed, as was the driveshaft itself. I'm guessing my bike must have been assembled on a Wednesday. I cleaned the splines up a bit and used some Moly 60 just for kicks. I'm hoping I have the same luck in the "tick" department........

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on the warranty question!

Hey Louis,

Welcome to "my" jurisdiction... :bubba:

I live in Milan, that is some 70 miles away from Ghedi AFB and I'll be glad to be of assistance.

The warranty question is best answered by Mama Yama, but if there's anything else the Italian FJR Forum folks can help you with, just post a message.

And of course you're most welcome to join our rallies and events that you'll find listed on the Forum.

Thanks Stef! I've looked at the Italian FJR site, but.....my Italian is not so good. I've been looking at the pictures mainly, the photos of all the rides you guys take look really nice!

If all goes well, I'll be at Ghedi by the middle of July. Hopefully it won't take too long to get my driving requirements squared away...

I've been wanting to expand the English-language contents of our Forum. Right now there's only a short "editorial" on the Home Page and it really doesn't say much (I know because I'm the one who writes it :bleh: ).

There should be more stuff in English by the time you ship over and, once you've had time to settle in, we'll organize some good rides in September and October and give you plenty of advance notice.

We all look forward to meeting you B)

Stef,

I'm looking forward to meeting all you folks too......I've always wanted to ride through the Dolomites......looks like I'll finally get the chance!

OrangevaleFJR,

If all goes smoothly (does it ever?)....I should be in Italy by mid July. Since Ghedi is rather small and has no base housing, I'll be "living off the economy" and mingling with the locals, rather than living amongst a bunch of Americans. It's a great opportunity to experience a new culture.
