I took my FJR up north to my nearest Yamaha service center to get my Spider Ground recall done. I requested a TBS while they had the tank lifted. When I picked it up, the mechanic said the sync was off a bit, but they corrected it. I noticed the throttle response seemed better coming off closed. The ride was 160 miles each way. I avg 44.7 MPG there and 49.5 on the way back home(I reset before each leg). Seems like quite an improvement! :biggrinsmiley: I was running 91 octane. I need to run some 87 and see if there is any differences in performance or MPG.

I did the same thing while in for recall months ago. I also had the plugs changed (Iridium's). I have no idea which, or both effected the improved mileage, but I had a 10% gain and still do.

I have a car that required 91 Octane, so I've put it in the FJR of a few occasions accidentally out of habit (as expected) no improvement in MPG or performance noted.

Why would you run 91 octane in an FJR? And why would you think 91sidewalls octane would result in better gas mileage?

Your TBS didn't make a 5mpg difference in your bike. It was something else.

Maybe air temp was the factor. It was quite a bit warmer ride home. Maybe it was the Taco Bell lunch gave me extra "boost"?

There was basically no wind, rode same speed both ways.

Wasn't sure on the octane rating the FJR requires, just got the bike 1000 miles ago. Sounds like 87 will be fine from your responses. Glad to save the $$.
