I don't have an FJR yet, but I use the hell out of fuelly. I hypermile my car to the extreme, but only started tracking my bike this year.

Before I started hypermiling the car I never recorded better than 42 mpg on my bike, this year I am seeing better mileage even though I don't make a conscious effort. Getting good mileage is affected by many factors, but the best way to increase mileage is to adjust the nut on attached to the handlebars.

Maybe I am missing a joke but I have no idea what this means.
It's a joke. In other words, if you want better gas mileage you need to adjust your (the nut holding onto the bars) riding methods by being easier on the throttle.

We each ride for purposes that are important or enjoyable to us. I personally don't care about mileage because I want to have fun. And fun for me means accelerating like a scalded cat from every stop! :yahoo: Obviously my mileage won't be very good. ;)

Update: 6/12/12

Filled up today and thought I had a better start to the mileage, since one trip was pretty long, but seemed to go faster once half a tank was gone.

In any case, I went 191.1 miles and fill up took exactly 4.74 gallons.

40.3 MPG this trip. Which I'm a bit happier about considering what others online are getting.

Plus I'm getting more used to the bike, and have been finding out just how much fun this thing can be. I'm pretty sure my next tank might revert downward. ;)

I'm getting 'chicken strips' on the front and rear tires and have made it a goal to eliminate them.

Just thought I'd keep everyone posted.

I was on a trip last weekend (2000Klms )two up fully loaded across part of Australia that's FLAT at about sea level.I was getting bad fuel consumption but on the way back I changed to higher octane fuel with no ethanol, fuel economy improved quite a bit. This was travelling at aprox. 70 mph with very few bends,or hills . when I twist the grip it can suck BIG time B) B) B) B)

Ever since running the can of seafoam through my tank, I've consistently gotten 39-40mpg. My driving habits have not changed much, but I do find myself taking corners more aggressively. This is a much different bike than my Warrior.

I may be changing jobs to one where I have to commute 80 miles, one-way. While the highway time will increase, average speeds will be 75-80mph.

If that happens, I'll be interested to see what happens.

Finally got my brain bucket setup with my Sena SMH10, and rode my first tank of fuel with the windshield completely down (as a test).

Although I may say I have been riding a bit harder, I filled up this morning with 201.4 miles on the trip meter.

Fuel amount: 5.01 gallons.

=40MPG

Which tells me the windshield doesn't seem to make a bit of difference in what position it was in.

This tank also had a large portion of highway miles on it.

I still haven't changed the plugs or inspected the air filter yet, and that's on my 'to do' list (when I have free time).
