38 to 42 MPG. Depending on how hard you hit it. :yahoo:

Miles per gallon means nothing when you are talking about this bike.

Post the question: How many people absolutely love the bike regardless of MPG.

See what you get for answers!! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS BIKE!!

I'm quoting this because it's true.

I was originally doing exactly what you are doing - comparing notes, setting down what matters to me and figuring out the best bike for me.

I've be ridding my FJR almost every single day now since I bought it last month. At first I had the MPG setting up on the trip computer.

I changed it to track my break-in mileage instead. That, to me, is more important than the current MPG numbers - especially as it'll improve after a few thousand miles of riding.

The funniest thing is that before I bought the bike, MPG was a consideration for me. Now, well, I have yet to even track my miles/tank or figure out the numbers. The bike easily gets better than my arbitrary "needed limit" of 200+ miles per tank, so I'm good with it.

It cannot be stressed enough how much this IS the right bike for many purposes.

I count myself fortunate to have bought the FJR and encountered this group of folks. I've met a few, and they are great (yes, even George... ;) ). Helpful, supportive, fun-loving and always ready to help you make the right choices.

I'll venture this thought - while searching for a bike, consider the community online and local to you for that bike - it can make your life a lot richer when you meet great folks with a common interest. (Hang on, Hallmark is calling me...)

I know this is a bit off your OP, but still worth considering.

Now, buy the bike, ride it daily, and only worry if it hits around 25 mpg... unless you commute at 130mph+... then you're doing fine... :D

I get between 28 to 32 mpg.The damn speeding tickets ,jail time and lawyer are really cramping my style.Cops really enjoy chasing bikes running in triple digits

I usually get about 50 mpg. I live at 5200 feet and I believe that helps. My last trip from Hailey, Idaho to Jackson, Wyoming, 2 up I got 54. Has a lot to do with your right hand

i am going to purchase one of these pretty soon and would like to know aht the mpg might be.

OK, you've asked for it (well, it is Friday) ...

MPG Plotted against miles:

MPG plotted against date (shows long runs = better fuel economy):

The very bad values are all when I'm only doing a short city commute, mostly 1st and 2nd gear, lots of stationary idling (3 miles taking around 15 minutes), poor when enjoying myself (lots of high throttle work - can't remember the speeds
biggrin.gif
), the good figures are gentle motorways (70 ish mph), the best are sightseeing (40-60 mph).

Note these are all Imperial figures; for US, multiply by 0.83267 (40 -> 33.3, 50 -> 41.63, 60 -> 50).

All these figures are using the bike's odometer and the petrol [gas] pump readings, noted for every fill (one of my many bad habits).

You get the award for the most indepth collection of data that no one will ever use that I have ever seen here.

All-Y'all really need the click-on the link, too (speadsheet & more)...!

So..., (reading & converting) Avg. MPG (U.S.) = high 30s....

Average 33-38 mixed riding around Norfolk, VA (lots of stop & go).

Average 43-46 on the Interstate riding @ 80-85 mph.

I reached 230 miles on three tanks of gas last trip before I hit reserve - never put more than 5.2 gallons in either.

Best mileage on my '05 was 56.5 mpg in the mountains. Most the time I get 45-47 mpg. Bike now has 42.1K miles. I keep it below 80 mph most of the time. ;)

Aggressive riding average : 36 to 38

Normal riding with twisties and some hwy : 40 to 47

Extended trips with luggage and wife aboard : 46 to 48

Extended trips with luggage and by myself : 49 to 52

Just came off 2100 mile trip with all three cases loaded, more luggage strapped to top case and wife. About 500 miles of interstate and rest was

all in the smokey mountains of GA, TN, NC, SC, VA, and Kentucky.

Avg when we got home was 48.9
