Mushrooms

Need some ideas on getting rid of mushrooms in my yard. I know some are poison for dogs and I don't want problems. There seems to be more this year than in the past.

You can't kill mushrooms/toadstools with chemicals. The top stuff you see is only the bit that releases the spores, the part you have to kill is underground and pretty much immune to chemical warfare. About all you can do is get the heads off as soon as they come up and before they can release spores, which isn't easy. Otherwise, changing the condition of the garden so it isn't the sort of habitat that the fungi like will reduce them, eventually. Improving the drainage seems to help.

Wish I could offer a simple solution, but there really isn't one.

Are they located in a turfgrass area or a bare soil area? It is possible to treat affected areas with a fungicide. Some mycetes are fruiting bodies of beneficial fungal organisms and some are not so beneficial. Problem is, many fungicides are non-selective and will wipe out beneficials that are necessary for the breakdown of organic matter. In either environment, control of water is paramount. Irrigate turgrasses/soils in the early daylight hours and only when absolutely necessary. Irrigating just before or during nightime hours will promote fungal growth in most soils.

My neighboor has had limited sucess using vinegar. You may want to dilute it when using on grassy areas as it seems to kill grass quite well. Good luck Gary.

No need to mail order....a little pump gas in the right amount....

Of course, you'd need to use enough so the underground temps would get high enough to kill the mushrooms. Hmmmm, I wonder if we could get some napalm!

As an added benefit, it might influence the forest rats to stay away. Put up a sign written in bambi-talk: "Next!"

Napalm is easy. Gasoline and desicant. The same stuff that comes in new electroincs to absorb moisture. Wish I had a nickle for every gallon of that **** I made.
