If so.......Who did Jimi Hendrix say was the best rock guitarist he ever saw??

Rumor is that he said Phil Keaggy was. After answering this, I saw the Snopes link above. I can't verify their claim but I can verify that's what I've heard since around the time of Hendrix' appearance on the tonight show. I'd have been 15 at the time so watching The Tonight Show wasn't something I did.

Hendrix was talking about a guitarist with a name that nobody knows. You would have to travel to Chicago to find out who this guy is.

Jimmy Page was awesome. But, there were sooooo many great ones in that timeframe. When I wasn't listening to Motown, I was listening to Zeppelin.

Hendrix was talking about a guitarist with a name that nobody knows, it doesn't help that he deceased in '78. You would have to travel to Chicago Transit Authority to find out who this guy is.

Nobody knows TERRY KATH from Chicago? If you know 70's R&R you would. Yep you guessed it.

Can't remember where I read it but supposedly Hendrix said Terry was the best guitarist he ever saw.

One thing's for sure KATH was very underrated, as many great's are.

Looks like Hendrix and Kath were good friends!

Sorry, I checked with my notary and he wasn't able to verify.

Lighten up Freddy is just a meaningless music trivia thread, probably "most" of the questions can't be "certified".

BTW....the article does give sources for that comment where Hendrix shouts out on stage for people to check out Kath.

Well there you go.

So maybe the question should have been something like "Who did Hendrix think was better than himself", not "Who did Jimi Hendrix say was the best rock guitarist he ever saw?"

Hopefully Hendrix didn't consider himself the (2nd) best guitarist ever.

And don't worry, I'm not getting worked up about anything here.
