OK here is the official thread for the Muskoka ride weekend. It appears we have pretty good interest. Now we need to determine a date that works for the majority. please offer up some dates that you would be interested in attending. I strongly suggest avoiding Canadian long weekend dates to avoid any wobbly pop weekend warriors, but that is just my opinion.

The date is going to be Aug 29-30 For those who are planning to attend this ride please add to this list.

I will update the list as it grows from the rest of the responses

I'm in! I'm wondering if this may be more of an August trip. June has filled up (for me anyway), July would be very hot and busy due to the cottagers. Any thoughts?

Apparently it is so how about the 3rd or 4th week of Sept.?
Count me in as we mentioned on the Penn-Run feed.

The later part of Sept is EOM in Lewisburg WV, so keep hashing.....

Last Wknd in Aug or 1st Wknd in Sept werks fer me.

Bill (yamafitter) arranged the last CFR up in neighboring Huntsville.

He may be able to give advice or even help with this gig :) ...I remember getting attacked by little black fly bastards up in the Algonquin Provincial Park... we should avoid this time of the year! Holy F'n! itching little red mark bites!

I'm interested but August would be about the only time I'd have a chance to go. Once a date is firmed up I can start to work it. September is bad for me with the start of school and kids sports on the weekends.

By July, the black biting flies should be gone. I'm keeping my eyes on this trip. I would have to get my passport updated. Hmmmm.... Interesting.

1. The first step is nailing down the weekend.

2. Next up would be lodging, and, this sometimes focuses around the above no1.

3. Start the roundup of tentative names interested. If it's big enough, I'll make a registration website.

As said ^^^^, I'll help or do whatever you Kanuckians need. Since a lot of phone calls are needed to accomplish no.2, a native would be best served for this. There are some parameters that should be followed...

-Most riders do not want/require or need a lavish room or accommodations. Clean is a requirement, next up would be the surrounding amenities. This is usually where the anchor lies (not easy combining all the basic needs we will want/require). Since our crowd likes to partake in parking lot socials (after our ride days).... a close by (hopefully a couple of choices) within walking distance restaurants is preferred. The in-house dining at some hotels is "Okay", but outside is usually a better choice for most. We also have to get the Okay for the outside socials, some establishments especially if they have an in-house bar will not allow it.

Next up in the lodging is price. Another snag because Canada is naturally more expensive. Most events try to keep the price under the US $100 range. Pretty challenging for Canada. When we did the Adirondacks, we purposely stayed down in Gloversville as the lodging was only $59/nite at a Super-8. It was still only 20 miles up to the good roads and area. This made for many of peeps wanting/going and signing up. Something just magically happens when the money sounds right... you build it as above, they will come! (if the price is right!). So there is a snag of some-sorts w Canada.

Next up (and still speaking of Canada); I have mentioned this (last year) for a meet. Well, you have to get well north enough or it's got to be good riding. The Huntsville area does have this, not overall perfect, but pretty darn good in it's own right. Credentials (passport) is next up. I'm good, Stan-lee as well, but, some others may have this as a snag... thinking; I guess if they really want to go... it's a very easy problem to fix! :)

So what I've heard when I tried to arrange a Kanada event from the FJR natives. (again, not me saying this!!)

"Gas is expensive"

"Food is expensive"

"Hotels are expensive"

"Riding up there is pretty good, but there's much better south of the border"

So we could do this, it will (probably) be a much smaller group, which is no problem to me. I just thought I should fire this stuff out there.. please feel free to comment of course.

I had lunch with Moosehead on Saturday and mentioned this ride, he said he doesn't get here on the forum much anymore but he's interested as well.

Personally though, now that I think about it, I'd be more inclined to rundown to SEOhio/WV before I'd pay money for a hotel in the Muskoka's.

And this matches up pretty much with what I've found and posted above^^

Dang! Kanadians not even giving the love!

It's always nicer to ride "somewhere else". For some of us, Muskoka is "somewhere else". A two wheel weekend therapy session is going to cost money where ever it is held, if it is "somewhere else". Let's keep exploring our options within the boundaries of this particular thread...

Just my thought. I'd say "my two cents", but I'm not sure of the current exchange rate.
