1. The first step is nailing down the weekend.
2. Next up would be lodging, and, this sometimes focuses around the above no1.
3. Start the roundup of tentative names interested. If it's big enough, I'll make a registration website.
As said ^^^^, I'll help or do whatever you Kanuckians need. Since a lot of phone calls are needed to accomplish no.2, a native would be best served for this. There are some parameters that should be followed...
-Most riders do not want/require or need a lavish room or accommodations. Clean
is a requirement, next up would be the surrounding amenities. This is usually where the anchor lies (not easy combining all the basic needs we will want/require). Since our crowd likes to partake in parking lot socials (after our ride days).... a close by (hopefully a couple of choices) within walking distance restaurants is preferred. The in-house dining at some hotels is "Okay", but outside is usually a better choice for most. We also have to get the Okay for the outside socials, some establishments especially if they have an in-house bar will not allow it.
Next up in the lodging is price. Another snag because Canada is naturally more expensive. Most events try to keep the price under the US $100 range. Pretty challenging for Canada. When we did the Adirondacks, we purposely stayed down in Gloversville as the lodging was only $59/nite at a Super-8. It was still only 20 miles up to the good roads and area. This made for many of peeps wanting/going and signing up. Something just magically happens when the money sounds right... you build it as above, they will come! (if the price is right!). So there is a snag of some-sorts w Canada.
Next up (and still speaking of Canada); I have mentioned this (last year) for a meet. Well, you have to get well north enough or it's got to be good riding. The Huntsville area does have this, not overall perfect, but pretty darn good in it's own right. Credentials (passport) is next up. I'm good, Stan-lee as well, but, some others may have this as a snag... thinking; I guess if they really want to go... it's a very easy problem to fix!
So what
I've heard when I tried to arrange a Kanada event from the FJR natives.
(again, not me saying this!!)
"Gas is expensive"
"Food is expensive"
"Hotels are expensive"
"Riding up there is pretty good, but there's much better south of the border"
So we could do this, it will (probably) be a much smaller group, which is no problem to me. I just thought I should fire this stuff out there.. please feel free to comment of course.
