Me and some buddies will be doing a 3 or 4 day ride in Pa in June. What are some must ride roads and guy touristy things? War museums, logging stuff, trains planes autos ect

In SW PA you may want to see the Flight 93 site near Shanksville, the Quecreek mine rescue site near Somerset, the johnstown Flood museum, the Ligonier Valley railroad museum, Compass Inn( a 1799 stagecoach stop) and Horseshoe Curve near Altoona. Indiana, Somerset, bedford, Greene and washington counties are loaded with covered bridges. Route 30 (Lincoln Highway in this area)is very scenic over the Allegheniesand is always a good ride as is 653, 56, 381 and 711. Seven mile stretch on the top of the Alleghenies takes you past dozens of wind powered generators. Follw 711 S to Fallingwater(Frank Lloyd Wright designed) and Ohiopyle for white water rafting. Check our www.laurelhighlands.org for more travel destinations. I may be able to join you for a weekend day if that works.

Fort Ligonier (1758) and the Lincoln Highway Corridor museum close by also.

Focus on the Allegheny Mountains area, stay away from E. PA too crowded.

Out of Wellsboro try:

 1. route 414 on the south side of Cotton Point State Park. Nice country road in the woods.
 2. route 6, running west. Another nice ride, more traffic and services along the way than 414.
 3. route 144 out of Galeton.
Watch your start time on options 1 & 3; you don't want to get a late start on those roads there are few services and lots for forest rats.

If you are in the N.W. PA area stop by the Zippo Case Visitor Center in Bradford, PA.

Seriously? I live here and can't imagine why anyone would want to spend

3 or 4 days here when you could just as easily go to WV or SE OH and have a blast. Heck, I'll go to WV for just to get some lunch.

If you do come, try to stay in the central, vertical third of the state.

You'll find the best roads south of the turnpike or north of I-80.

Three or four days is plenty of time for a run to the Blue Ridge or Smokies and back. I'm looking forward to exploring roads in this area as the weather warms. I have done quite a bit of riding on the tertiary roads throughout the western third of the state, and there is definitely some good twisty riding. Lots of time between Pittsburgh and Pymatumning. This state is also plagued with deer and local police.

I'll be interested to hear the locals ideas here.

Why Pa?

Well we do this Fathers Day ride every year. Last year was WV Pocahontas County, year before was Finger Lakes. Our one friend is in Eastern PA so its a good meeting point since the other 3 of us are in the Cleveland area.Eastern Pa rides kinda slow. Im doing BR parkway, Deals gap, cherahola ect in the fall.

These are good, hopefully you find them with little or no traffic.

Have fun...I passed thru PA on the way from Ontario to WV in 2007. Did some of the roads and places mentioned above.

However, things I don't like about PA...45mph secondary rural highway speed limit...and bumpity bump roads.

Beautiful scenery and good museums/historical sites though.

I loved the Laurel Highlands area...22% grade roads are fun.

Since when did a speed limit mean anything to you?

Another interesting visit is the underground coal fire in Centralia. Centralia is a ghost town now. If you follow 61 south from Centralia you can see where the section of road that was destroyed has been blocked off. I was able to get my bike over the berm and ride that section and stop and get some pictures. Interesting story.

I am always restrained by the speed limit. You make me out to be some scofflaw...which I am not. I hate tickets as much or more than the next guy.

Yeah...Ok

I grew up in eastern PA.

You will love:

River Road (Rt. 32) between Easton & New Hope.

Beautiful, scenic road that winds along the Delaware River.

Have lunch in New Hope. Great little town.

Route 6 across the northern part of PA is nice. PA Rte 287 between Wellsboro and Jersey Shore is a fun road also. If you're in the Lancaster county area there are still a fari number of covered bridges in use. Bedford county also has covered bridges still being used too.Word of warning though, as a resident I can truthfully say our road maintenance sucks! Whats 20 feet long, yellow, and sleeps 6? A Penndot truck!

You mentioned logging stuff. On Rte 6 between Galeton and Coudersport there is a lumbermans museum at the site of one the old CCC camps that sprang up during the depression. Real interesting bit of history there.
