mine is slammerkin 2. Slammerkin - used in old english, i.e. 1700's England, to mean a woman with a bad reputation, slatternly woman, now a days - ****. Often called that when maintenance work proves harder than anticipated.

For the benefit of those who are unaware of the history of my 04, he was originally "Silver Streak".

After the unfortunate cam chain incident and his subsequent resurrection, he is now "Frankenbike".

He approves. :D

A damn shame it isn't Friday; so I could tell you what RadioHowie's original name was! But then again, this is a "Family Values" Forum. My 2003 is "Lucy Liu"! I still want to ride the original Lucy Liu!!!

The 2nd reason was I was always abit hesitant to give "female" names to a bike,, or male for that mater. As bikes are basicly sexless. (for most of of us...)
Man, not me! She's so much fun to ride. When things are right, she's an extension of my soul where we experience an unexplicable bond. I take special care of her every need, while trusting her with my life in many circumstances. The list goes on and on...

I guess that's why I don't name bikes. I can't get passed the thought that I'm hanging on to and steering a bunch of bolted together castings, forgings, and molded parts, that help me escape from casting, forging, and molding parts...

I just need to get to that higher level I reckon....

Any advice from the master?

:)

(I think I remember you saying you grew up in a machine shop too...)

Sure did.

I've been riding since age-3. Wouldn't let them take the training wheels off my bicycle, but they'd crank the motorcycle for me and push me off because I couldn't touch the ground. Could barely reach the pegs! Pedaling AND balancing was harder!

No real secrets from me, just hours and hours, miles and miles. And these words from my Daddy...

"The day you think you've got the motorcycle mastered, sell it! Because it's about to kill you."

There's always something new to learn on two wheels.

I got that too...

But the higher level bond with the bike...

?

I still feel like it's a machine that I'm in control of...

Seriously. I envy you people that connect further.

? How do I get there?

Sincerely...

Dunno... this is the first bike that "spoke" to me... I knew she needed a name on the first ride and by the time I mounted her the second time she had it. Zoe.

Mebbe I'm hard a hearin'....

I don't remember ever thinking about the bike as "he" or "she", let alone an entity in need of a name.

Please stop naming your bikes. It's a little disturbing.

(Except fjrchik... that was classic. **** ... classic)

I think it has to come from sheer appreciation Rushes. Mine happened gradually over several rides where the bike gave me nothing but big grins as the suspension got tweeked in, earning it several pats on the gas tank each ride.

One day after a lunch time ride where I forsook food just to spend the time riding, I was admiring the hit of her pipes at idle back in the parking lot while removing riding gear. Several riders came over and commented on the sound. And it's stock. One guy from Argentina - Dave, was in awe and began stroking the seat with his fingertips and comparing it to a Ferrari, one of which he has.

I'm sure he'd have named it if it was his...

Oh trust me, naming a bike is one of the least disturbing behaviors I exhibit!

:)
