The guy I bought the bike from told me it was completely stock. Is this a mod that is routinely done when you buy a new FJ? Its a 2009 with 1400 miles. The avg mpg appears to be about 40mpg. Anything I should know about/look for with this thing?

It's there to allow adjustment of the fuel map to the injectors, usually to richen it up at low throttle settings where it's very lean for emissions, or to comensate for installed equipment like aftermarket exhaust. Generally smooths it up.

A dyno place with an exhaust sniffer can build a tailored map for your specific bike for the ideal settings throughout the rev range. Could be that was already done, or maybe he's using a generic map, available lots of places for download.

Go to the powercommander website for info on how to look at it with a laptop if you're interested.

And yes, they are fairly routine, one of the most popular products for injected bikes.

Smooths out the throttle response and "might" add a wee bit of top end; depending on how its mapped. If it is an effective fuel map, you will pay at the pump - it will impact mileage to one degree or another.

Yes go to Dynojet web site and download their software. Use a USB cable, plug it into the PC and fire up the software, start your bike and see what map is being run. Look in the notes window to see what if anything is says. It may be a Dynojet map for your bike. Or you could get really lucky and the PO had it on a dyno and it is map made specifically for your bike.

Either way it is pretty cool, just DO NOT PRESS any buttons or change anything until you understand the process, software. It is interesting to see and get a basic concept of fuel management.

Original owner mailed me a software disk and the output of his dyno runs used to tune the power commander. Very cool. Sure looks like it was tuned to smooth out the low end. As my MPG has been running at 41-42, I seem to not be taking a large hit in MPG.

So, 600 miles this weekend. What a great ride!!!

If he had the loaded map tweeked on a dyno, leave it alone. I always fine-tune the preloaded maps, and have always noticed a difference. It was money well spent as every bike will have slightly different optimal settings.
