I am planning to attempt a BBG on the out to NAFO starting Tuesday night. My route is from Rockford IL up to Fargo ND, via !-94. Then down to Omaha via I-29. Then straight west to Golden, mainly on I-80.

Over the last few weeks, all I have been hearing about is construction along my route. It is to the point that I am seriously thinking about either changing my route, or just skipping the BBG all together. My earlier hope was that since I am doing the ride during the middle of the week, delays wouldn't be bad.

I am open to thoughts, or CONCRETE information about delays on my route.

More than anything else, right now I am just dejected and flustered.

Just Do It!!!!

This is the season of constructon, no doubt. It will be everywhere. And while it will slow you down some, my bet is that it won't kill the ride.

Trigger, check out SD34 just north of 90, rode that one from Sturgis, all the way to Pipestone, MN, no traffic all the way.

I have received 2 phone calls in the last few hours, both from forum members not calling specifically about my ride to NAFO, and they both lifted my spirits about the ride out. Like Skooter says, I am going to just ride, and if I make it, so much the better.

I was getting down after listening to people who either didn't know anything about long distance riding, or people who wanted to focus om the negative. Now to try to find time to start packing.

Went west from Chicago to ND on 94 last week. Some construction (goes to one lane for about 10 miles at one point), but no problems. Speed limit 65 in the construction zone, not a whole lot of traffic.

I say go for it!

TriggerT,

I'm doing a BBG too, almost all on I-80 starting in Central PA, and I have the same traffic and construction concerns (well -- I have to get through that Gary/Chicago stretch and I've been stuck there for hours more than once...), but there's nothing to do but go for it. If you were guaranteed to make it before you started, well, why bother?

If traffic, construction, and an occasional thunderstorm are our main problems, we should both be okay. If it gets too slow, we end up with Bun Burners instead of Bun Burner Golds. Nothing to get stressed about there.

I start Tuesday late afternoon. I'll buy you a beer Wednesday night to celebrate our rides, win or lose. Or I will if I'm still awake when you get there. ;)

I will need to be in Golden by 8:00 pm to make the BBG. If you are buying the first beer, I will buy the 2nd. See you in the Bar!

Yes, I 80/94 through Gary/Chicago can be nasty, but the good news is that the major part of the construction is complete and the road is five lanes wide in both directions through this stretch and shouldn't be a problem for you passing through. Keep an eye on the road signs though if you need to stay on I 80. It splits off of the main through-way just after the tollway starts.

Stay safe on your BBG's both of you, and see ya in Golden.
