The grab rails aren't all that strong and give you a little less leverage, it's much easier using the hand cutout. It's all in the technique....one flowing motion...step and lift. Easy peasy. :D

Grab rail = incorrect. Plastic piece, and not directly above the foot on the centerstand. It won't hold up to that over the years.

Handle under the seat. Use it. Fix the vid. Do it now.

I use the grab rail to keep my balance and let my foot (leg) do the lifting. If you use the handle under the seat and lift in that bent over posture you're likely to bust your *** (back).

 
From another new 2013 owner posting on my purchase thread in another forum about having center stand difficulties I decided to post this.

Here's my technique. Only I just realized there is a hand cutout forward of the grab rails. My technique works same using the hand cutout versus the grab rail. Click the link for the vid:

Don't you have one of those new 2013s?

Centerstand is supposed to be a snap with those things...like 30% easier or something.

This. Use the handle under the seat. I have to because I've got a rear deck from premier cycle with integrated helmet locks and passenger backrest, so there are no more grab rails.

Funny thing...first time i put my '13 on the center stand i almost launched it into my neighbors yard lol was very easy using the technique similar to what was posted by wfooshee.

Centerstand on the '13s is a snap. Playing around at the dealer, I damned near put it through the wall it came up so easy!!

Is. I don't have a number for it, all I know is the first time I put my 2013 on the centerstand, I nearly threw it out of the garage backwards.

Why is it so easy on the GenIII? Did they move the attachment point? Redesign the center stand?

Actually very little pull on the grab rail. Really just balancing myself. My weight on the center stand pops it right up. I'm sure my grab rail force is no more than the wife's hand will be in a nice turn.....:cool:

Exactly. Rode a couple used FJRs and thought "****". They weren't easy compared to a couple other bikes. The 2013 seems much easier.

 
How is it that people are too stupid to figure out the center stand? For ***** sake, a guy that rode a Sprint ST showed me how to do it and its been a snap ever since.

NOW people are having problems figuring out the GenIII stands?? When they are supposed to be way easier??? Jesus Christ!!

A couple of you gotta put down the Goddamned remote control and the Starbucks latte and go to the gym. If you still can't figure it out, you're just unfortunately stupider than the stupid side of average.

I have to agree with some that under the seat is a better method for me than the grab rail method, not only is it sturdier, it also gives me a greater amount of leverage :)

 
At first when I tried to put the '08 on the center stand all I did was bust my *** and thought I would never get it done.

On morning I went to put it on the center stand without thinking about it and bingo, done.

I think it's more mental then physical.

Nobody starts out knowing everything. If we all knew everything from the start we would not need this forum to exchange information. I personally knew two different guys who bought FJRs that were unaware of the built in handle. (Reading the manual would have helped). Once I showed them the little handle, and the fact that the bike had to lean farther away than they felt comfortable with, it was easy and simple.

My favorite centerstand story involved a friend who bought a used BMW R1150R. It was his first motorcycle since riding a Harley while in college back in the 60's. I rode it and put it back on the centerstand like I found it. He watched in amazement, then said "Oh is that how you do it?" I asked what he meant. "I do it sitting on the seat. I have trouble finding the kickstand so I just pop it up on that thing." I had to see him do this, he was able to pop it right up onto the centerstand while sitting on the seat. Dad and I strongly recommended a MSF course at that point.

Um...My bike hadn't even left the showroom floor. We were screwing with it waiting for paperwork. I didn't leave the dealership with my head up my ***, not knowing how to work my bike.

...I swear. There's always one.
