My Centerstand Technique

Nobody starts out knowing everything. If we all knew everything from the start we would not need this forum to exchange information. I personally knew two different guys who bought FJRs that were unaware of the built in handle. (Reading the manual would have helped). Once I showed them the little handle, and the fact that the bike had to lean farther away than they felt comfortable with, it was easy and simple.

My favorite centerstand story involved a friend who bought a used BMW R1150R. It was his first motorcycle since riding a Harley while in college back in the 60's. I rode it and put it back on the centerstand like I found it. He watched in amazement, then said "Oh is that how you do it?" I asked what he meant. "I do it sitting on the seat. I have trouble finding the kickstand so I just pop it up on that thing." I had to see him do this, he was able to pop it right up onto the centerstand while sitting on the seat. Dad and I strongly recommended a MSF course at that point.
I can put my bike on the center stand sitting on the bike, it a little tricky at first finding the balance point and then rock back and pull back the bars as you push down the stand.

Zilla got so worked up he did a double post.

How is it that people are too stupid to figure out the center stand? For ***** sake, a guy that rode a Sprint ST showed me how to do it and its been a snap ever since.

NOW people are having problems figuring out the GenIII stands?? When they are supposed to be way easier??? Jesus Christ!!

A couple of you gotta put down the Goddamned remote control and the Starbucks latte and go to the gym. If you still can't figure it out, you're just unfortunately stupider than the stupid side of average.

Seriously.
It appears that until "a guy that rode a Sprint ST showed (you) how to do it," you were too stupid to figure it out.
Oh boy, haven't been to a gym in 55 years and never had any problem putting all the bikes I owned on the center stand. I must say though, the BMW K1200LT was the worst one....I agree that it's not all physical but proper technique helps a lot.

They should just eliminate the centerstand if it's causing so much grief..

I've gotten so good at getting mine up on it I now use telepathy.. The Hippo however refuses to listen so I have to finesse it onto it. Easy peasy, it's all in the technique

2 points.

1. There are plenty of threads on how to use the center stand on this and other bikes. There's a training vid on Wings.

Given the higher, heavier, etc. models in those marques, the FJR is a snap.

2. HRZ need to chill a little. A quirky nature is one thing but something's different of late where everything posted by him seems to be spewing vitriol and lacking wit (not just this thread).

Just for the sake of it......I second that motion....https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//public/style_emoticons/default/****.gif

Just 'cuz I'm sick of seeing this thread title in "new posts," (referring to an often posted and in this case, wrong technique for doing something every FJR rider already knows), I'd like to Third the motion. Can you Third a motion?
