A long term (ex)friend of my 17 year old daughter has hacked her myspace account and wiped 3 years worth of photo's and contacts (over 100). He started by trying to log onto her hotmail and made out he had forgotten the password. He then answered the sectret question correctly and once in, emailed myspace for their password. Once he had that he did the damage. I would like to bounce the little reptile but have decided that doing the same to him would be much more satisfying. Any ideas on how?

The Police say its a grey area as to whether its an offence at the moment but they would be happy to go and have a word with him. I doubt if that would do any good. Certainly wouldnt be as satisfying as doing the same to him.

Just have PD go talk to him. Ask them to scare him a little bit.

I would just drop the subject afterwards and have your daughter choose stronger passwords. If you escalate this, it may lead to something very unpleasant. Chock this up to poor security practices and move on.

If you want a stronger password, dont choose anything familiar. For example, don't make your password fjr1300. If someone knows you, they'll try it. If possible, make your password a passphrase. For example "IlikeYamahaBikes" It makes it harder to guess. Even better is to combine letters and numbers.

And change the case sensitivity for the letters....always an excellent blocking mechanism. i.e s1T9p5L7 which is an example of using your initials interspersed with a particular year (say d.o.b )
Good luck.

Best case you could hope for with the cops is ID theft. Maybe for a little scare.

There is always the old school tried and true methed of getting your dislike across that involves eggs and some rolls of TP

Since you've already contacted the police any worthwhile revenge would likely get you in hot water. Just move on.

That being said, wouldn't it be a shame if some sort of contraban were found when the police came to talk to him..... B)

Here is the States (FL in particular) there are very clear and tough laws regarding this subject. In the UK, I have no idea, it may indeed still be a grey area.

I know that Corporation electronic assets are governed just like any other asset. Meaning there can be

legal action taken for malicious acts.

At the very least I would contact mySpace and maybe the people who host the website and let them know

that this individual has illegally accessed someone's account and done damage.

A complaint to his ISP and yours may be in order also.

Other than that, I suppose you could employ some 9 year old to hack into his accounts and do the same thing.

You could always put a paper bag of dog crap on their porch, light it on fire and then ring the door bell.....just kidding. PM. <><

That is totally underated and should be used more often in this world as a means of conflict resolution.

Suspicious drug use type paraphernalia accidently found in the youngster's ride come to mind after a dime is dropped by a unidentified but concerned good samaritan  :evilsmiley03: :innocent: .....(only wanting to do the right thing)....

There aren't too many new parents on the board. For those that are, don't let your kids hang out on the internet. Tip two: Don't store anything on the web that is important to you without having a backup somewhere. Tip 3: go to kid's parents and have a talk with them and him and the same time.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I have calmed down a little since I found out about it. The police seem the best resort and deffinitely contact myspace who hopefully can track him in her account, or at worst warn him that they are aware of his actions. I have done some reading up and they take this sort of thing seriously.

Regarding his parents, he doesnt know his dad, his mum is a drunk and his stepdad beats her and him up. I know what you are thinking....she is 17 you try telling her!!!!!

For passwords on important stuff I use the name of a primary school friend and keep a word document (which itself is passworded) with cryptic clues for the passwords that only I will remember. For instance:

Current bank account password; Jimsmith.

Cryptic clue; the guy who's sister was cross-eyed.

Totally un-hackable unless it was one of your schoolmates trying to hack it, and for me that is too long ago to be worried about.

Obviously my forum password is FJR1300 like everyone else!

The obvious answer (other than involving law enforcement) is to sign him up for every **** and gay ("Not that there is anything wrong with that") magazine and website subscription list out there...flood the SOB with it.

Did this to a friend of mine as a joke 20 yrs ago in college (just about 20 **** mag subscriptions)...had it mailed to his home address during the summer while he was home for the break. He still vows revenge to this day.

Ha! That reminds me of something we did at work long ago. We got a new supervisor who was retired army and a total d**k wad. There was an "alternative" newspaper in town (San Diego) with all kinds of deviate ads. So we answered several gay personal ads on his behalf. Rhumor had it that one showed up at his door with flowers....

Lots of good ideas here and it sounds like you are going to take a reasonable tack. I will add that I would be surprised if MySpace doesn't have a backup on tape somewhere of your daughter's data. Can't hurt to ask them.
