After reading about how easy it is to change oil in the FJR I have decided to go ahead and do it. Bought all of the materials needed but have a question concerning type of oil. And yes I have read all the oil threads.

I bought two gallons of the Shell Rotella T heavy duty motor oil SAE 15W-40. Just wanted to ask you wise sages if this is the right stuff. It looks like most of the 15W-40 is for diesels which kinda threw me ?

Just wanted to know if this is OK for my 05 FJR ?

Appreciate any and all responses.

If you've read all the threads.....haven't you also read all the repeated opinions? Hasn't it been answered umpteen times already?

Yep, that's the one. Stay away from oils with the energy conserving "star."

That's the right stuff. Yes, it's diesel oil, but as many previous threads have pointed out, it' the extra additives for diesel oil which make it attractive for use in any engine, including gasoline. Plus, if you look at the ratings, not only does it have a Cx rating for diesel oils, but it also has a Sx rating for gasoline engines so it's fine.

The stuff has been working fine in my FJR for 70,000+ miles.

I asked jestal what he uses - I now use Delvac (Desiel, 15/40) in all my vehicles. Yes, if he jumped off a bridge I would too. :thumbsupsmiley:

Ok, so everyone is in agreement that Rotella T is acceptable to use in FJR's? Over on the SVForum this has been hashed out several times too. I use it in my SV650 and it runs fine and I think it accutually shifts smoother than when it had Honda GM4 in it. So I will switch to Rotella T when my FJR hits 4000 miles.

I think the next TechWest will include a clinic on forum searching and thread navigation for the Never-Ending Pointless Recurring Threads section. :to_become_senile:

A lot of folks on the VTX forum use it, as well.
