My primary reason for posting is that I was introduced to the Patriot Guard through a similar post several months ago (by toecutter I believe), hopefully my post will have the same affect on others. I went on my first mission today for Lt. Lyons in Rochester. It was an incredibly moving experience: I have been around numerous biker groups in the past and it was amazing to see the amount of respect from this group that under normal circumstances would be anything but.

We were fortunate that there were no protestors (at least none we heard) although they were scheduled to show. It seems to be the consensus that we owe Reverend Phelps a thanks, he is after all the one responsible for the creation of the patriot guard! Kind of backfired on him methinks.

Let me wrap this up by saying a very heartfelt thanks to all of our veterans, you have done our country a great service.

Well crap, would a kind admin put ride or mission on the end of the topic title so that I don't sound quite so gay, 'nuff of that on this forum :D

I did one a couple of weeks ago and will be doing another this week. It is an Honor to be able to be a part of seeing true Patriots to there final resting place....Definetly worth getting involved with as an American.

Thanks for stepping up and doing something for him and his family. I truly appreciate your act of respect and kindness.

V65,

Congratulations on your first ride with PGR. I got involved after reading Orangevales post a couple of months ago and felt a serious amount of gratification after my first ride. The thing that amazed me most was the complete lack of sportbike/touring riders that choose to attend. I don't know if its fear of the Harley Riders not accepting them or some other reason but I can assure you that the fact that you join and attend is enough to be accepted by these fine people. There was some nice coverage on Friday night on NBC news...did anyone catch it?

That would be my screaming yellow VFR in the middle....

We had several sportbikes, and more non HD bikes than I expected, but my expectations were low :) By far most of the bikes were HD, and most of the riders were wearing colors - as you might imagine the vets were well represented.

But that isn't really relevant, the day was about Lt. Lyons. The story was all over Rochester about the protestors and the Patriot Guard, people were honking there horns and giving us arm pumps on the way in. The city fire department showed up because they had heard about the protestors and hung a HUGE flag across the road. They also stood with us at the funeral. Seemed like the whole was galvanized by the Phelps group.

So like I said at the outset, for those of you that haven't checked out the PG click on the link, its painless to sign up and incredibly worthwhile.
