My new 2014 is squeaking, or chirping, in the plastic area around the front display area. Only hear it at slow speeds, but really annoying, Almost seems like the plastic panels are rubbing against each other, but to much noise for simple plastic parts. Any hints before I wind up tearing everything apart, with the possibility that I will only make it worse? Could it be the forks right below these plastic parts that I'm hearing?

Did find something strange when I insured that all the connectors were tight. The very upper left black connecter helping hold the center plastic to the upper front requires an allen wrench to tighten it, but on the direct opposite side, that right connector requires a screwdriver to turn it. Seems weird that these connectors performing the same function are not identical pieces.

Did you look at the fiche to see what the correct fastener is for both? Seems weird to have different fasteners on each side.

You know, after buying an FJR, being here and noting all the assembly related issues people have that I've never had, I have concluded that proper assembly of the bike will reduce certain issues by about 90%.

If your bike was assembled half-assed, you need to take it to your dealer and raise enough Hell that they correct their mistakes.

Yep! It's brand spanking new. I'd take it back and put on your best war face. Let then know you are Not pleased. That'll get their attention.

before you bring it in, check for a) the mudflap in front of the rear time and B) the cover on the air cleaner - both of which were missing off my 2014 and many others.

Good advice above re: taking it back to the dealer. That said, if you think that ripping your tupperware apart and putting it back together would help I'd say go for it. It's not that hard and you're going to be doing it a few times anyhow!

People are quick to blame the dealer for improper assembly. Do you really think the dealer "builds" the bike in the back shop? I agree that it is the dealer's business to fix it on their (or Yamaha's) dime but I wouldn't consider it to be the dealer's fault.

I read this "tweet" and wondered how many miles are on the new bike? Since it's under warranty, not sure if I would start tearing it down either. Probably hard to let her go back to the dealer but......

Lay out some birdseed, close the doors and wait with bb gun in hand.

Works everytime!

You are right that it may not be the dealer who caused the problem. I didn't notice anyone on this thread blame the dealer. If the wrong fastener was used then that could have happened during manufacturing, though I don't know why the wrong fastener would even be available in the manufacturing process. The squeak itself could have been cause by manufacturing, shipping, or final assembly at the dealer.

In any case, it should go to the dealer and be resolved under warranty. Just make sure you take it to a dealer where the technicians actually know what they are doing. It doesn't have to be the dealer where you bought it.

IMHO if you let this minor noise bother you then you are going to hate this bike. Put on some ear buds or put in some ear plugs and ride. My bike makes all kinds of strange noises from windshield creaking to front tubes squishing to exhaust burbling and every thing in between. Then throw in your helmet vent whistle and visor chirp. It reminds me every time I ride it why I listen to music.

Also just MHO but for minor crap like this dealerships should be avoided at all costs. They will not hear the noise(s) you hear but just to keep you happy they will disassemble everything on your bike, break **** and put it back together without saying a word. Read and heed

Next time you hear it grab the windshield. That is what is chirping on mine (Yamaha Touring Shield) and it stops when I get a hold on it. Or go out in the garage and wiggle the shield up and down and see if it sounds like what you are hearing.

Thanks for all the responses! Decided I'm not taking it back because I don't trust the trained (or un-trained?) monkeys at the dealerships. Need to take some of it apart just to learn how its done, and maybe find out the cause at the same time. Tried the windshield, but maybe will try it again since I do have that Yamaha Touring Shield.

Don't have the rear mudflap in front of the rear tire, and this weekend will check into if I have an air cleaner cover. Oh yea, checked the oil level when I placed the bike on the centerstand. Immediately 100% of the glass showed oil, so wonder how much did they overfill it?

It would seem that Yamaha only fit the rear mudflap on Gen III bikes that have the electrically adjusted suspension.
Check the oil level after warming the bike up, then letting it sit on the centre stand for about 10 minutes. (At least, that's what the book says.)

Before you blow smoke on the dealer, look at another GenIII to see if the fasteners are different from what you have. Hopefully there sill be another at the dealer to compare. As for the oil level, I would not do anything. The break-in oil is not done by the dealer, it is done before shipped to the dealer. When the dealer does the 600 mile service you will likely see the oil will again cover the sight window.
