Wow that looks like fun! I imagine that hobby can get pretty expensive pretty quick. Pickles, you are right all sorts of upgrades and revisions to do to those things. It would probably be a great way to pass the winter months.
Yeah; the cost really sneaks up on you. You start off aiming to spend about $250, then next thing you know you've talked yourself into buying a $400 car, a $130 battery charger, a couple batteries for $130 and a set of wheels with sand paddle tires for the sand and snow for $55. And I'm already itching to upgrade suspension components, add a center differential and possibly upgrade the motor. It's clearly not fast enough as is
I've had both electric and gas in the past (10+ years ago). Based on that old experience, I was planning on getting another gas powered car for the higher power and consistent power through the tank of gas as compared to a battery running down as you used it.
Then I learned that things have changed a bit over the last 10 years (who would've guessed that?). With the new brushless motors and lipo batteries, electric cars are freakin' fast! The lipo batteries don't slow down as you use them like the old ni-cad batteries, and they also don't have the memory problems that require you to fully discharge before charging again. Best of all is the runtime. I got 45 minutes of runtime from one battery at the track! Combine that all with the lower maintenance (no carb tuning, etc) and the newer waterproof electronics, and electric was an obvious decision for me. I could crash this thing into a pool or lake, fish it out and keep going. They just recommend that you don't actually drive it while the motor is submerged. I can't wait to take it to a beach with sand-paddle tires
Another electric vs. gas consideration: you can't run gas cars on indoor tracks (I'm sure there might be some that allow it, but electric only at the indoor tracks I know about)
Great video. I bought a Slash 2 WD about a month ago. Lost of fun at the local indoor track. They sure have come a long way in the 20 yrs since my last RC battery car. I'm loving it. Now I'm looking at the Slash 4WD. Great car.
