My Poor Old Worn Out FJR

I guess my 2¢ is:

If you love your FJR, and it's running great, and there's nothing that bugs the $#!t out of you about it, why would you be thinking about selling it and buying another bike?

A bike that does 150 or 180 STILL can't be run on American roads at those speeds without a ticket straight to jail. And even the new FJRs are priced 'way too high--<$16,000.

@yanktar Whatever you do, do not (under any circumstances) ride a 3rd Gen FJR. That way your money will be safe.
This was my mistake.
^^^^

And mine too. I rode that same Gen 3 and now have my sights on a '14 ES with zero miles that's $4k under MSRP and is within 225 miles from me. I'm trying to wait and see what the '16 Gen 4 FJR looks like first, but may have to buy the '14 since Yamaha is holding out on showing us the Gen 4. My poor 110k mile FJR is worth about $00.00.

That 'little birdie' that leaked the prospect of a Gen 4 in another thread had better be right or it's a dead duck. Based on previous experience with the 'little birdie' there may not even be any more FJRs made by Yamaha after the '15 model year.

Mr. 'beam, what could the '16 offer that the $4K under 2014 doesn't? Good time of year to make a deal on that '14. Probably won't see 2016 models for much below MSRP until next fall. All speculation of course until we see what mama yama offers up.

I rode that red beauty too and it had me thinking....but my worthless 2005 is still running fine.

I can't imagine Yamaha discontinuing the FJR. It's the best sport tourer out there

Granted, I'm new to the FJR family, but I'm planning on keeping my 2008 until I retire from riding...which I don't see happening anytime soon. It only has 10,000 miles on it, so it's not even broken in yet. The bike I put the most miles on was my 1995 FZR1000. I think I put something like 75,000 on it. Ran great when I traded it in, too.

Rode my dirty old whore '04 with 113K on the clock into the office this morning.

She looks like she's been rode hard and put away wet a few dozen times but runs like Jared in a school zone. (Too soon??)

2015 is going into the books as the lowest riding year for me in years. The dirty old whore should have 125K+ on the clock by now.

Hopefully things will quiet down a bit for 2016.

And who knows? Mebbe a replacement FJR will happen.

But I'm kinda fond of the dirty old whore.

That may be your opinion, it may be mine. Unfortunately, magazine testers seem to give the FJR only an average score, and fashion is currently dictating adventure styles, so it's not being bought in big numbers.

If Yamaha can't make a profit, they will discontinue it. An obvious example is the YCC-S variant, discontinued in the US, threatened to be discontinued in the UK more than once. Probably the case other markets.

In the end the dollar (or the yen) will win.

I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of ownership. With work and family, I managed to clock just short of 8000 (s)miles this year. I'm going to disagree with Mr. MagicMaker saying that we don't know how much he loves his feej. We do. That's what this particular thread is about. I am dreading the forthcoming salt trucks here in western New York. I do not have a garage. She stays on the covered porch from last salt of winter until first salt of winter. After first salt, she will be coming in to the house. Into the dining room, in fact, across the room from the wood stove. I will never let go of this bike.

And I like BigSky's idea of pocketing the extra 20 g's, and putting that toward destinations.

It seems like the Adventure/Tour motorcycle star has been rising for a number of years while the Swiss army knife sport/tour star has been setting. Plus, the FJR is a real POS, riddled with flaws, defects, lack of options and a multitude of shortcomings, just take a trip over to that weird FJRForum.com and read the posts over there, it's nothing but doom and destruction for the FJR and its parts.

I've said it before in a thread like this but I rode a '14 or was it a '15 this year in Daytona (I can't remember)....anyway....... it convinced me that my '04 is just as wonderful! Now I'm not naive enough to think that had I spent more than 20 mins and 20 miles that I might not succumb to the kool-aid lol but I still love my '04!! Now the FJ-09........hmm I coulda made a case for that snappy bike! That was pretty fun ride!

Thanks for the grins! And the good advice!

No, I'm not likely to be test-riding any bikes soon, and have NO desire or impetus to replace my under-used FJR. My sole complaint is it can get hot in traffic in the summer.

I tend to hold onto bikes for a real long time.

See, if you hold on long enough, until on paper it's not really worth much, then you don't feel like you need to sell it before buying another bike. A good strategy to build up a nice fleet for all different uses & purposes.

I mean, why sell something with negligible book value (but in great shape) just because I needed a sport tourer

. Not to say I haven't sold any bikes in my 40+years of riding but a good bike is a good bike. It'll will return years of good experiences since I don't care about bling or only having brand new.

Hope to do the same with my '14 FJR - it's such a great bike. The tips from this forum have made it even better. Thanks everyone!

Hold onto a bike long enough and it goes from new, to used, to old, to a rat bike, to a "classic", to a collectible antique. Got a dis-assembled '71 Suzuki T-250 in my shed I've had since 1977. Now it's almost 45 years old!

I'll admit I'm bike curious about the 2016.

If I get one or not I plan to keep my 08 forever.

It and my POSKLR. Too many good rides together. Both are like old friends.

When the day comes that I'll no longer be able to find fuel for them, I'll turn them into "art" for my man cave...

Anybody who seriously thinks the '16 is gonna be a major upgrade..... Really? 5 years of Gen-I, SEVEN model years of Gen-II, and then only 3 of Gen-III before all the expectations go off the deep end?

What are you guys smoking, and why don't I have any?

The only question is what color, and if it's another new-for-FJR color.
