I'm wanting to install the bike johnny sliders and went out today to buy a unibit or step bit to drill out the plastic. I went to a hardware store and they were selling them for $ 45.

Does anybody have that 1" dia unibit out there that they don't mind lending to me for the install?

I wouldn't mind spending the money on something I would use more than once, but I seriously doubt that I would.

Anybody? Send me a PM if you don't mind me borrowing yours...

I understand if nobody responds...just thought I'd ask.

Grumpy & Pengaru:

Did you guys cut holes in your fairing with a holesaw??! I'm trying to follow directions given on the micapeak site.

I sure did.....works fine. The issue isn't "sawing" the hole, but WHERE do you saw the hole??? I'd suggest that the paper template will only get you "in the ballpark". Therefore, you should try a small bit first and "see" where it come thru the faring in relationship to the engine bolt you are about to replace with the Bike Johnny sliders. An adjustment or two and you'll be ready to drill a hole for the pilot bit on the hole saw and then use the saw to put the hole in the proper location. All this sounds more complicated than it is in real life! Good luck!

There was a thread about using a laser level to pinpoint the bolt from the side, re-install the fairing, and mark the laser point to drill. You should do a search. I'm too lazy.

You must have been looking at the titanium, no, waidaminit, GOLD plated unibits.

Spade bit for $2 would probably work just fine. Just go REAL sloooooowwwwww and eeeeeeeeezzzzyyyy.

Then again, return the Bike Johnny sliders and put on the no drill sliders. Dem be berry berry nice.

Uh oh. I was wrong. I was pricing the itty bitty bit (# 1 and 2?) . Not the 1 inch hole unibit. OUCH, those things ARE $45 for the 1 inch! Jzeesh, did I pay that much for mine? YIKES!

Sorry. My bad.
