First off he is fine and rode the rest of the day with only his pride hurting.

I spoke with him today and new stuff is already ordered.

I have some pics to throw out he may not have seen.

As he entered the bridge, his tire washed on the wood planks. as you look at the pics. remember this is 10 -15 mph MAX. He was 4th in line so he could not be going any faster.

the wood was wet.

He slid 85 ft. from the start of the pic to where E 1 Allen is standing

My theory is that when the rear slipped out, he dropped the bike on its right side. The right bar end weight sheared off, leaving a knarled-up mess of the bar end. It had the throttle tube stuck in an open position. So the engine did not shut off immediately, but instead the bike "chewed" its way along the bridge for 80-plus feet until the tip-over safety switch shut off the fuel supply.

A similar thing happened to me once on a dirt bike. It caught my pants leg on the right peg and dragged me a couple hundred feet on gravel.

I thought the tip-over kill switch was electrical? So it should be instantaneous, though there have been several reports of that not happening. If it happened as you theorized Jeff, my guess is the tip-over kill switch didn't work, and the engine ran until the fuel pump could no longer pick up and distribute any fuel due sideways orientation of the bike.

Glad the rider is ok.

Nick is a heck-of-a-guy. It's a shame his bike went boom, but he really got lucky that there was no more damage to him or the bike.

But hey, nice little cruise down there aint it? just a bit further down the road is a great hiking trail!

I was wondering what happened on that bridge when I crossed it later that day. Glad all is well.

We crossed that bridge on the two-up ride pretty close to the same time. Sorry to hear about the get-off.

So glad to hear that as far as Nick is concerned, nothing more than his pride was damaged.

From my perspective two bikes behind him, we were traveling more like 5 miles an hour. We were being cautious. When I stopped on the bridge, my feet almost slid out from under me, that deck was slick. I recall seeing his bike spin around like 360 degrees. I don't know if the rear tire was driving it or not, and I couldn't tell whether it was running or not. But if I gotta get off someday, this is the way I hope I go down.

Live to ride another day, Nick, hopefully again next year at EOM.

And remember, statistically speaking, you are now on the other side of the bathtub shaped curve.

I heard there were about 4 different wrecks - everyone else ok??
All get offs are going to live to ride another day... thank the Lord! One guy broke some ribs, one hurt his pride, one may have broken a wrist & got some contusions from hell, one that I didn't hear anything about other than his bike was in the parking lot pretty f'd up. Petey, you may have been the bike that I didn't see. Glad you're ok & doing well.

I am very thankful that more bikes didn't go down. There are some very technical roads in WV. I am sorry that there was anyone that went down & very, very thankful that it wasn't more.

Glad to hear that everyone is okay

Who is the guy working on the handlebar?

I was one of the crashers. I'm ok and was able to ride her home. ATGATT saved my butt.
Sucks man... you came all the way from Oklahoma to take a dump in WV... no pun intended.

The guy working on the handlebar... that is out friendly neighborhood speedster, Jeff Ashe.

Glad everyone is able to walk away too. I turned around on the bridge to see nOstress's bike laying on the bridge and I was thinking to myself, how the hell.... Then it hit me and I rememberd how slippery the bridge actually was.
