NAFO Litter Aftermath

I waited for Friday so if there is a dog pile it is the right day.

As some of you know I spent most of the rally keeping an eye on the parking lot and bullshiting a lot. Every morning MM2 and I spent time picking up garbage from the night before.

On Sunday morning as we got ready to leave, I did one more lap of the parking that was our private lot for the event and the mess was everywhere. There were beer cans, bottles, glasses,cigarett butts and cigar butts along with general trash everywhere and there were trash cans provided. In a world where motorcycle riders are getting a bad rap for a lot of things it seems that we could have left the people at the hotel with a better example of our appreciation for their hospitality. I have nothing against smoking, drinking, and a good party because I was really good at it myself. I just think we could leave a better example when we leave. Rant over.

Maybe a good point here to prevent any type of similar stuff happening at other meetings, EOM, ahem. It is a big part of good stewardship for representing the motorcycling community as a whole. I agree with you. Not a rant, just right, IMHO. .

I just don't get people who toss their crap wherever they finish with it. I also had to clear some broken beer bottle pieces from in front of my bike to leave the NAFO parking area.

We stopped at a "View Area" on our way home, to take in some gorgeous scenery and I even picked up a couple of trinkets for the ladies back home. A man approached me, asking for help with his disabled vehicle. When I kneeled down to take a look, I came up with a wad of discarded chewing gum on the knee of my pants. :angry:

This warrants a DOUBLE extra-gracious thank you to our all-volunteer security crew. Not only did they watch over our bikes, but they played Mom for the kids who aren't adult enough to look after themselves yet. Thank you all, for leaving the facility with a better impression of our group than some members deserved.

PS It was the wedding party, rather than our group who had a drunken brawl outside our room at 2am. Beer and punches were thrown. I'm glad I wasn't witness to any of that from the biker group. One lady, who I met next monring was taking pix of the bikes. She was totally impressed with our group. She was here for the wedding and couldn't believe that such a large group of riders was so well behaved.

How right you are! I missed it completely, since I was fast asleep but Andy heard all the details and said it was right outside our room.

BTW, many thanks for taking our luggage to the room. That really made my day and was highly appreciated.

It's my fault. The bride wanted me, really bad. She said her new hubby just wasn't up to snuff. When I said no, I'm taken, she went into a drunken frenzy. I ducked the first punch, hid behind the tree, then quietly exited the scene while the brawl escalated. Sorry for the commotion, it's tough being me!
But I didn't litter, cause my name ain't Arlo and we weren't at Alice's Restaurant!

I agree. Cudos to those that watched over our bikes. While I was out there I never saw litter, which means they also did a great job of litter control: but they shouldn't have had to clean up after... but thanks.

You're very welcome. I saw an opportunity to help some people out, and make acquaintances at the same time. One of the arrivees kept trying to get me to go away, thinking I was hotel staff fishing for tips....

I even got a chance to help a brother pick his bike up after he pulled a "ME", two days before I pulled it myself.

Lots of us had cigars and who can say who disposed of them correctly or not. All of mine made it to the can or went far afield after being field stripped.

FJRay, your services are greatly appreciated. You should not have been responsible for cleaning up after anyone at NAFO.

I owe you a beer or beverage of your choice. In hindsight I seem to recall having left an empty beer bottle at the scene Saturday night. I apologize for not being a better guest. Thanks for looking out for our community in such a selfless manner.

It may well be a good "warning" for the other FJR owners mets to assign someone to "police" the area. While the wait-staff will pickup the mess after we've gone, I doubt any of those who made that mess was likely to tip them in a generous manner, and it certainly might not bode well for the next motorcycle group who wants to use the same facility.

I remember seeing that Ray had asked for and gotten some trash cans placed by the parked bikes. Waaaayyyy kewel! I don't want to complain but rather to denote the things we found every morning, from beer bottles (I even trash-canned some full bottles!) to bar glasses left in assorted areas...some less than 5' from the nearest trash can! For motorcyclists to leave such a mess I wonder if they even considered how easily a glass bottle or "adult beverage" glass could be converted into a "tire-biter"...by one simple accidental kick??? AND lunch meat packages, candy wrappers, empty cigarette packages, etc., etc., etc. Jeez, Louise, I could bend over and pick the trash up and place it in the receptacle without moving my feet!

One hopes that everyone would act like responsible adults and clean up after themselves. Perhaps I'm dreaming or living in Ignacio's idealistic world.
