I left a 20 in the hotel room, as I usually do after a multi-night stay. A friend of mine once recommended the practice, and it seemed like a good idea, so I stuck with it.

Well said. I sure wish you had been around to phrase this for me on a recent EOM scouting trip. Out of frustration, I did not communicate it well at all and as a result, our fellow rider likely still doesn't get it.
Or maybe just have a good soul in attendance, like Fencer, who just does it of their own accord. Kevin, this is long overdue...Thanks you very much for cleaning up our mess after last year's EOM banquet. The wait staff was in awe that someone helped. I should have been there with ya and I wasn't. For that I apologize.

I came away from NAFO very pleased with the behavior of our group.
But I wouldn't have known what went into leaving that impression if not for this thread. Thanks for what Ray and Mike and friends did out in the parking lot to leave me and, presumably, the hotel with that impression. Thanks, too, to everyone for behaving, as far as I could see, like ladies and gentlemen.
While it's disappointing that it may be necessary, perhaps a simple statement about not disrespecting the host property at any of our regional meets is in order.

i for one am hanging my head in shame. i did not not do any of the littering but i did walk thru the area while i was hurrying to get on the road early sunday morning. i saw the mess but did not do my part in helping clean it up. guys i am truly sorry for this and in the future i will do my part in helping wherever i can

FJRChick just left my place and she wanted me to post her apology. The cigar butts were left because they are biodegradable. But she's still sorry for leaving them on the ground, which she realizes looked bad. She volunteered for cleanup duties in 2010.
I gave some glasses for cocktails out to some the guys that were drinking with me and although I brought mine up to my room, some of theirs made not have made it back inside.

Leave the cigar butts out of the rant! 
They are completely biodegradable and have no additives, papers (if you properly throw any ring away), filters, etc. You could complain about leaves from trees having as much impact to the ecosystem.

I myself try to be a respectful little girl & exit all of my trash to the proper receptacle. Since having EOM in the same spot as last year, I know for a fact that Brier Inn's crew come out very early in the morning & scours the parking lot. Is it their job? Well, yeah, I guess it is. Should they need to do that? Hell no... & I plan to post something about it before the meet.Maybe a good point here to prevent any type of similar stuff happening at other meetings, EOM, ahem. It is a big part of good stewardship for representing the motorcycling community as a whole. I agree with you. Not a rant, just right, IMHO.
