Name That Part

I am hoping someone can help me identify a part I found under my 2005 FJR today.

It is grey metal, two inches long, the shape can best be described as two circles in the shape of the number 8. On both sides of each circle, there are small tabs, which probably helped it hang on to what ever it used to be connected to. I found it under the bike after putting on the heat protecting insullation under the gas tank. Any ideas please?

Goes under the bracket that mounts the rear of the gas tank. For some reason, only under the right side.

Thanks wfooshee. Genius! Now, to take a few bolts back off and put that "hook tank fitting" back on. I am sure it must be there for a reason. Appreciate it.
