Just would like to know why the car pulled all the way into the lane of the bus, but looks like they were going the other way? Luck he survived. The kid that got off the bus won't be using that underwear again.

I know that's a wide-angle lens, but the bike seemed a bit quick. Like quick enough to not be in sight when the car started?
Although I have no clue where the car was trying to go......

The moment of impact.

You know it's going to hurt.

If not Kill.

I get it.

Been there.

Check my sig.,..

Gunny +1!!

It sounded like the guy hit the bus then the bike you can see nails the bus windshield. OUCH!!!

Glad he's ok. Driver needs a head check...

Looks like he was going way to fast.... Either way, WTF was that lexus driver doing - sitting in the middle of the road ?

I'm curious was his helmet not strapped on. On the side view of the bus looks like the helmet is rolling down the road past where he final stopped. Glad he was ok though.

The thing I don't get is neither of them should have been moving at the point where the bus is unloading kids.

Maybe the driver pulled up to the bus and stopped as I would have thought the bus had it lights flashing.

The motorcycle should have been slowing to a stop for the bus as well.

This arm chair quarter back faults the rider of the bike more.

That's not a school bus, it is a city bus. The guy who stepped off was basically being kicked off because his bus card wasn't working. He had already loaded his bicycle and was being forced to remove it so the bus could leave.

That's why he acts pissed as he's stepping off.

How in the Hell could it be the motorcycle's fault when he had the right of way??

Agree, and he doesn't appear to be moving much faster than the white vehicle that passes in the beginning. Lexus driver is due a beat down me thinks.

It was not his fault legally, but when you have an accident you need to figure out what you could have done differently. If you accept none of the responsibility you'll likely keep making the same mistakes over and over. From the video, though, I'm not sure I can tell. I would have thought he would have had time to get stopped if he'd reacted as soon as the car started moving. But I wasn't there.

In a residential area, I tend to run slower than normal. But at his age, I'd have been running faster and I definitely survived some near misses. I was smart enough, though, to figure out how to reduce the likelihood of it happening again. I hope this kid is, but everyone's probably telling him he didn't do anything wrong, so ......

Yes, the driver of the car needs a thumpin' ;)

+1

Even when right, you have to take emotion out of it and look at how to avoid it (again if the rider, at all if the observer).

1. It's clear that it's residential with lots of driveways and side entrances.

2. You can't ride in "condition white" through areas like that and often, riding under the posted speed limit when sight lines are limited is more prudent.

3. Wear your brain bucket and protective gear because street clothes won't last a split second in cases like this.

+2 Old Geezer Guy and Bounce.

I actually like dissecting these cases, not being morbid or to make fun but to see what I can learn and hopefully recognize the situation when it happens to me and react differently so the outcome is in my favor. Good stuff!

Some good advice I got once..."assume every car may try to kill you..." I pick my places to ride fast, but with a bus stopping, and a car approaching all in the same place...seems like he could have had his brakes covered and maybe at least left some rubber on the road before impact. The reason I thought this was a good video to post is I do think it presents a real-world scenario that we all likely run across at one time or another, not out of any disrespect for the rider, or just to watch a guy crash.

I agree, and there are some lessons here if young riders would see them. With the bus stopped, all sorts of bells should have been going off. I had an accident -- in a car -- when I was a teen. I was passing a stopped bus, when a car pulled out of a driveway behind it into my path. That's been 50 years ago, but I still slow down around stopped vehicles.

I'm with you guys on the rider needing to be more aware. He probably should have been ready for something lime that to happen, and hopefully learns from it.

I was addressing placing LEGAL fault on the rider. Even if he was riding too fast, the Lexus still has the legal requirement to stop and be sure it's clear before proceeding.

Hell, I woulda slowed down just to avoid the I inevitable drunk guy getting off the bus and stumbling into the road. BUT...I wasn't there.
