from the "other" forum:

There is a special documentary focusing on motorcycle crashes on the National Geographic Channel that will be airing this Thursday. I believe it is on at 8:00 pm Central. It appears as though it also airs at the following times/dates:

Thursday, September 17th, 2009 @ 8:00 pm

Thursday, September 17th, 2009 @ 11:00 pm

Sunday, September 20th, 2009 @ 1:00 am

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 @ 4:00 pm

For those of you that have Direct TV and live West of the Rockies, this show comes on at 6pm on Thursday (09/17) on channel 276.

It should prove interesting!

I watched it last night and enjoyed it. Altho sort of an 'infomercial' for the Italian m/c aftermarket industry, there were some good words offered by Neil Hodgson and a few 'cameos' by Ago.

The narrator got a little tripped-up describing slipper-clutch function -- but, other than that, everything was fairly factually presented.

Just good to watch MV Agusta and Ducati Desmosedici in action.... :D

Odd request, but if someone could record it onto a DVD and send it to me, I'd be greatly appreciative. I'll pay postage and if needed, will mail a blank DVD to reimburse you.

Yah I saw it. Its not really about motorcycle crashes per se. More about technology that goes into keeping riders safe.

Amazing! a TV docu about bikes that's well-researched, unbiased, and non-sensational? Isn't that one of the signs of the Apocalypse? I was shocked off my feet.

I was a bit disappointed. It was more about how alpinestar makes a set of leathers for racers than anything else (with a little Nolan helmet tech). Nothing really about street riding, at least what I thought the show would be about. Guess I was expecting an update on modern street motorcycles and what the OEMs have been doing R&D on.

They touched on the concept of trickle down tech. So a lot of the R&D starts in the race labs and then a year or two later filters down to us streeters.

It was OK , but Race suits and Helmets are old technology. I wish they would have touched on the newer tech, such as neck protection, suit inflation systems and ABS. Even the logic used for the Honda airbag system on the GW would have been interesting.

I missed it, anybody from the forum in there? We've got lots of experts on crashing around here. :(

Yeah, but this was a show for Joe Sixpack, who's never heard of race leathers, not for people that already ride/race. I thought they did a fairly decent job of explaining things, not dumbing it down, and not sensationalizing it with "OMFG LOOKIT THE CRASHES!" like the media usually does.

If you noticed, they covered a ton of stuff, and so they didn't have the time to cover any of it in-depth. They pretty much had to gloss over most of it.

But yeah, you'd think that Italy made 90% of the bikes out there... on the other hand, as a guy that buys only Nolan & Alpinestars products, maybe they do!
