Natural Velocity

I've noticed that the FJR's natural velocity, or the speed at which it prefers to travel, is generally 20 - 30 mph over any posted speed limit (except in residential areas).    :angel:

That is the same estimate I come up with, this rider has all he can do to keep it down to 25 over the posted limit, except in residential areas, which are few and far between in my neck of the foothills. And I can only do traffic school every 18 months...

I didn't even notice that 5000 RPM equates to 90mph! :blink:

Well, I sure hope I don't break my streak of 28 years of ticket free driving !

Ya…I agree that the Feejer is definitely in its sweet zone around 85-90 mph. I have this habit of keeping that pace (on the slabs) until I approach a vehicle in my way and then I twist the throttle into the triples…pass and “slip“. Such fun. I don’t even think there is even a time I even turn the key on this machine and it does not see the triples. WARNING LABEL: this “demonic possession” most surely takes place during all solo flights! :diablo:

Well the way I figure it, I've owned my bike for 60 days so far.

That's 1440 hours

with 6500 miles on the bike that works out to only an average of 0.22154 mph.

I don't think I'm breaking any laws.

And just how far back can you spot a Chippy in those mirrors, sir? I can spot them maybe 100 yards back. If I'm doin' 75, it's already too late. I'm counting on outrunning all the casual followers and avoiding radar and aircraft ahead. Can't see much at all in those mirrors.

I don't care what is behind me (cops anyway). I worry about the coppers infront of me. They have some good hiding spots sometimes.

The obvious "Natural Velocity" is exactly why I recommend a good radar detector to be used at all times (I personally use the Valentine One, but this is covered on another thread), 'cause this "tendancy" will bite you in the butt or should I say get you bit in the butt by the law dogs. :erm:

I posted on the other MC area. WA State, just in time for WFO 4 is having a crackdown on speeding MC's excetra. I thought picking on certain 'groups' and quotas were a NO NO! TJ

Having said that it is work to stay under 40 especially coming from a naked bike. Just getting the clutch out, the FJR is steady like a freight train. My SV is nervous at under 2 grand and needs clutch work as my driveway isn't paved.

If it's a car CHP, I look for the contrast between the body (black) and the roof (white) which is prolly good for a quarter mile worth of 'mirror'. If it's a MC CHP, that's tougher... Again, I look for the contrast - helmet color (usually white or gold) and compare that to the headlight configuration (the RT's is quite distinct), so if I see a light colored helmet and a RT headlight, I'm off the gas pronto until I can confirm otherwise. This is usually good for 1/8 to 1/4 mile depending on light conditions.

I've never seen a radar plane, so I can't comment on that issue.

Boy, THe Chippers (paunch&John) were out in force today! I counted 12 from I 15,210,57,91. Those guys have a great job! I would do it!

Ya'll are just plain ass crazy with them there machines going sooooo fast.

I was out yesterday with a few fjr buddies in the north ga. mountains and it was a little rainy up there so we had the roads all to our selves.What fun we had,of course we observed the posted legal speed limits at all times,Exceptions had to be made for slow moving cages and the like.I swear we never went over 130.

But seriously it just seems almost impossible to keep legal limits when your on the highway,80,90,100mph seems normal to me, and on curvey mt. roads just go ahead and double the speed limit. We are all living second childhoods when we straddle our steeds.Just use good judgement if you can in residental areas.These bikes are a ticket waiting to happen!!!
