If someone makes these for sales purposes, they need to plan on marking them at about $20 each or less (including shipping). Anything more is treading on the cost of a combo set of wrench+front axle nut from bike johnny.

Bike Johnny wants £ 27.64 (UK Pounds) = $40.30 plus shipping from the UK for the 2 piece set.

Wild Hair Accessories sells just the (same) Meissner head wrench for $20 plus shipping from Arizona.
I wish I had found that earlier :angry2: :angry2: Factor in your time and materials, you can't beat $20!!! I think I may order one to keep as a spare. Thanks for the link Fred!!!

Not if you orient the tools correctly. The length of the spanner is of no consequence if the torque wrench is oriented at a 90 degree angle to the spanner.
Thanks Fred. Your post was like déjà vu (a glitch in the Matrix). I searched for a long time, but I finally found it. <Link>

I tried to order one of these from my local Yamaha dealership, and based on the YU33975 part number in the shop manual...they can't find a price or order this for me. Does anyone know what the correct part number is (if this isn't it??) and how much these are from Yamaha? I also heard someone somewhere say that these were available from KL Tools (looks like a supplier who makes tools for all the manufacturers)...and I can't see this tool in there either.

for the hex "socket" tool (front axle allen hole), I read somewhere in the forum that a spark plug socket used backwards works fine. I tried it and it does work quite well. The "bottom" or lower end of the socket fits in the hex hole of the front axle and a 3/8" drive long extension goes into and through the socket into the 3/8" square hole which is now at the other end of things. Perfect and I already have the tools I need to accomplish getting the front wheel off.

Hope this helps someone,

Amazingly, I typed "YU-33975"into this search engine thingee they have running at that Google dot com web site and the first of the results was this  That is a pretty good price for that tool BTW.

The KL Tool part number is KL-0201D, but the KL Tool web site appears to be down right now.

$58.43 is a good price?

Wow. [/ Christopher Walken imitation]
I bought mine from Wild Hair Accessories and they were less than the above mentioned price:

Meissner Steering Head Tool Stainless Steel US$20.00

MeissnerTire Tool Stainless Steel

14/19 for Front & Rear Tire Axle US$25.00

A quick reading of the BikeJohnny website reveals this:

FJR1300 2001-2006 - Special tool kit - Head Bearings & Wheel BoltsYA10-09-020-00

Fits: FJR1300 2001-2006

This kit contains 2 specialist tools designed for the FJR1300.

Tool 1: Head bearing C-spanner - designed to allow the head bearing castellated ring nuts to be torqued correctly.

Tool 2: Wheel Nut adapter - 14mm & 19mm Hex fittings for the front and rear wheels.

We regret the tools cannot be supplied separately.
So it seems the quoted price is for BOTH tools, not just the spanner. Still a bit steep, in comparison but since they're based in England and are a great source for our European brethren...... _________________________________________________________________

One would think that if your local dealer can't find the part and price, one might peruse this thread under "FAQs and Common Historical Info". My guess is you could find a source for the desired pieces.

Yes, unfortunately, for that tool (the Yamaha / KL version) that is a good price.

As noted several times earlier (even by me) the Meissner tool will do the same job for $20. Afterall, the amount of torque being applied is pretty darn small. But there is no comparison in quality between the nicely milled KL tool and the rough cut Meissner tool. As I'm sure you are fully aware, you have to pay for all the labor to get that beauty... ;)

I made a socket to torque the steering stem nut, from some pipe, a washer, and a nut. 30 minutes, a sawzall, benchgrinder and a welder. Works for me.
You know what they say, profireguy, without no pitchers, it never happened... ;)
I'll be back in a minute, gotta go to the shop.

edit: Here you go. I didn't spend a bunch of time cleaning it up, functional works for me.

I didn't read the full thread, but I have used a 3/4 inch coupling nut to remove the front axle in case no one mentioned that.
