I have decided to sell my 1980's Guerciotti. I'm not trying to sell it here, just looking for some advice.

It has a Campy Chorus grupo with possibly a couple of Record parts (I can't remember-- it's been hanging in the living room for about 8 years). 53-54cm frame is in excellent shape with only a few paint chips and no paint fade.

Should I try to sell it as a complete bike, or part it out? One friend said I'd get more for the parts than the bike. I have seen them being priced from $400 to $2000.

I had it on Craigslist for $350 for about 2 hours before a nice fellow called from VA to politely tell me it was way under priced. It wasn't what he wanted, but after seeing the quality on emailed photos, he felt compelled to call. He thought it might bring $1000 on eBay. Anybody think the parts and frame would bring that or more? If I get it sold in time, I might have the $ to attend NAFO.

Any advice from you bicycle guys will be greatly appreciated.

I would try to sell it as a complete bike. It looks VERY nice!! Even though it's Campy stuff, it is older so you might have a problem selling all the pieces. It's a drag to just have left over stuff just sitting around. Good luck with the decision either way.

I think it will depend on where you try to sell it. It is a classic!! If you find someone that is always wanted one, they would be willing to pay a good price for it. On the other hand, you might get more for it by selling the wheels, seat, handlebars, Campy stuff. Too bad its too big for me, I would be very tempted to buy it. Nice looking bike.

Its a bike that would in my opinion would bring about 800-1000 clams. Unfortunately I own several of bicycles and have a friend that owns a shop. We normally agree on what stuff is worth. A shop would try to give you around 400 but to the right guy the above figures are pretty close. Try ebay and use a reserve-you'll have cash for NAFO. Hope to make it myself and good luck. Tate

Thanks for all the replies, fellas.

I have decided to sell the bike whole on eBay in a few days. As I say, it is in nice shape and I hate to part it out. Plus I don't want to screw with several auctions, payments, shipping, etc. Probably start it at $600 and hope to get lucky. I figure I could get that parted out if necessary.

We'll see what happens.

Thanks.

I'd post your picts on bikeforums.net in the classic section. This is a heavily used forum with a lot of guys who surf ebay every hour for parts and deals. They'll give you a read on the worth.

Thanks, but I read some of their forum rules, and it looks like they frown on questions of value so you know what to ask for on eBay, etc. And I didn't see any like minded questions posted by others.... so I will just have to see what the market will bring.

Thanks anyway.

I purchased the same bike about 10 yrs. ago used for $500 from a team racer who had been given the bike to race. Perfect bike perfect shape. Still used today by my son. It is really a piece of art that no one seems to recognize as art yet yet. the best of the old tour de france bikes. i hope you sell it to someone who appreciates it. Good for you for not parting it out.

Well, you were not far off, I guess. It brought $850 shipped.

Thanks.
