Ah.. hm... interesting
As I got the '07 rear wheel/tire/bearings/etc just minus the ring. So it was taken off somehow, and I no visable sign of damage to the wheel area where the ring is located.

Heard of anyone trying to mate an '08 ABS ring on an '07 rear wheel? OR is that what you are waiting to hear from me in terms of what I find?

Got me curious and wondering when wife and kids will be gone long enough to pulling my rear wheel and checking this out? Hm... not sure I have the right size nut for the rear axle... time for a stop at the parts shop one night this evening on the way home....
Dude!

You need to stop spending money on used parts. As I recall, the ABS sensors aren't even close between 07 & 08, as in they don't share a common mounting pattern.

If you bought what was supposed to be an '07 rear wheel that has NO ABS sensor ring attached, you've been screwed again, because you bought a Gen-I non-ABS wheel.

STOP BUYING USED PARTS!

Order the wheel castings you need for your bike and use the bearings, rear drive pieces, brake rotors etc. on the new castings.

Hence my very deliberate qualifier:

To date I've heard of nobody successfully move...
I hear regularly of people thinking about doing something or talking about doing something and even occasionally trying something. It's the succeeding that's far more uncommon in operations like this in my experience.

And I know a little something about rear wheels since I did assemble a wheel assembly from individuals parts (some used and some new) and had two or three hiccups on the way (including pressed wheel bearings)...and it even had the correct ABS ring on it to begin with. Color me one of those that prefer/learned getting the right parts to begin with is usually easier.

But, knock yourself out! Sometimes the tenacity of one person highlights some details available to FJR owners we didn't think would work before. If it works you can well expect people here to ask for a picture documented process. ;)

I hope the OP finds a reasonably priced year-appropriate wheel.
