Hay I am on a road trip out west. my AVON tires are getting cupped or flatspoted not sure. There is a dealer near by and thinking I may have to get tires. I loved Avons have had two sets...Bike has 19000 miles. On this trip after just 4000 miles the front looks like junk... If you had to choose what would you go with. SP2's, new Dunlops, or Brig??? I'l check back later using hotel PC. Thanks for your help. Ny to SD.....

If you are going to a local dealer, you may be stuck with whatever he has in stock.

If given the choice, I'd stay away from Bridgestone 021s. Great sticky tire but folks here have been averaging 3500 miles per set.

Assuming you can't get another pair of Avons, PR2s would be wonderful but standard PRs would also last though some report them feeling a bit "truckish". Since you are likely in "touring mode" that may not be an issue for you.

+1 on the Bridgestone 021's. Not only did I get crappy mileage out of them. I developed a Bubble on the Front tire the size of half a tennis ball averaging a

100mph on my way to Daytona Bike Week from West Palm Beach. (4 hour ride). It could have been disastrous! Bridgestones will never darken my doorstep

ever again. STAY AWAY!! :unsure:

I can only relate my experiance. I am one who actually liked the Metzeler Z6's. I had a couple of sets. May again. I currently have the Michelin Pilot Road 2's. They have performed very well. I can see why they appear to be the preferred aftermarket tire. However, they do have a "heavier" feel to them for me. They initially didn't feel as sporty as the Metz's. however, the difference is slight.

My first set of Z6's went 12k and the second set about 10k. Actually, I guess I had a third set. I took them off early to put the Michelin's on for a long trip. I didn't want to have to think about tires on that trip and it was worth it to just lose the rest of the miles on the Metzlers, and I wanted to try the Pilot Roads 2's and see what all the hubbub was about. Hey, Radman likes them.

I think that, from my run so far on the PR2's, that it will be a toss up between the Metz's and the PR2's next time around. However, I haven't worn the Michelins out yet and my feeling might sway as I get further into the life of the Pilot Roads. So far, I have nearly 6k on the PR's and they look and perform great! Very confident feeling. Lean well and have shedded rain without a problem.

Other than the Bridgestones (had a lousy set on the wife's ST1300) I think you won't go too wrong with whatever is a good deal where you have to stop for tires. But really, over many thousands of miles, what is a few bucks? Is it worth worrying about? Good luck!

+1 on the PR2s for a road trip. It is no fun hunting for tires while you are traveling, not to mention the time wasted having them installed. A set of new PR2s should go at least 10k miles before you feel any effects from wear.

 
PR2's Definitely! I just put a set on and they are, by far, the best feel. I had the Z6's and they were good until the last 2500 (rear. front wore fine). They wore weird and the tire geometry started to feel very strange in the turns. As to the comments about the Bridgestones, I ran them on my Bandit and only got around 3.5K.

 
I did 300 miles yesterday lots of curves. I am going to check what the front looks like. All the flat long roads gave me a flat spot. I niotice a slight out of round section, as well. There is a Yamaha dealer in town if I need it. I have about 700 miles to go before I am finnished. Thanks for all your input. Ps-2 thats what would like.

 
Fjr pro: If we knew where you are heading out west and what area you were going to be in more help would be available to get you retired for your bike.

If you are comming in the woodland / sacramento area and have a few days notice tires could be gotten out of az. at a good price need 3 days notice to bu and shipped to residence .

 
If you are headed thru the Salt Lake City valley feel free to gimme a call. I have basic tools, and could whip up some tasty BBQ if you need some. I have no guest room but you could camp out in my yard ( I have a tent and air mattresses!!)
