Stop farklemania? You're asking the wrong crowd.
As for winter, that's when the riding season gets really good for some of us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Agree. It was 25 degrees on Blood Mountain Saturday morning. No traffic!!! Woohoo.. Run the mountains in the winter in GA. Only saw 3 ADV riders in heated gear. Heated gear is good farkling. No sporty types except for me.

1. I'm a sucker for seats and windscreens, but the rest of the "farkles" don't tempt me any more. I am inoculated by virtue of having 12 linear feet of seemingly unsellable farkles for bikes that no longer exist. Maybe in 30 years they'll have value if anyone is doing restorations.

2. Forget the farkles. Just buy more bikes until the farkling impulse is too confused to pull the trigger on any specific farkle. When you're overwhelmed, you'll either stop, or you'll go bankrupt. Then it will stop without further effort .... maybe.

You think the Moto Farkle bug is bad, my wife rides horses. Take a look at one of those catalogs.

That thinking has limited my farkling to:-new seats

-A big trunk

-Power distribution and some exra sockets (2 DIN and one coax)

-Sliders

-Highway pegs

-FOBO TPMS

-Risers

-Higher Windshield (OEM)

slowly turning my FJR to a Goldwing but whatever
This is the exact list that I've whittled my farkle desires down to, lol. And THAT's what these bikes are for!! That's what my fully farkled dream looks like, anyway.

While that list is all good stuff, it's far too short. What about:

GPS capable of doing complex routing.

Rambone to mount the GPS in a convenient spot.

Intercom of some type to talk to passengers and other riders and hear your GPS instructions

Radar Detector to keep from talking to HotRodzilla's peers.

BigFoot to keep your bike from napping on the hot asphalt.

Snakeskin tank protection set to keep your new ride shiny.

RealTime Industries reflective bag stickers to keep cars from running you over at night

LIN3 and 3rd Brake Light Flasher to keep cars and trucks from running you over at stop lights during the day

FZ1 Mirrors so you can see the cage driver coming up behind you before he runs you over.

Bright LED Aux Lights so cage drivers will see you better and maybe not turn left in front of you.

Heated Gear (jacket liner and gloves) for those cool mountain passes, and late season rides.

Gore Tex riding jacket, pants and boots so you don't have to stop to put rain gear on.

...and the list just goes on and on.

I'll admit that I neglected to add the GPS, since I mine is a old Nexus 7 re-purposed for touring. The ram mount should have been mentioned however.

The other higher-visibility stuff is a matter of how much you wanna go "Uncle Hi-Vis" I didn't consider it a must-have since I found that drivers (in Chicago at least) mostly ignore it anyways, and all of my safety gear has retro-reflective stuff on it anyways. That being said i did grab some black reflective stickers for the bags, and I forgot to add that.

I tried the radar detector, but it didn't work for me, mostly since I am too cheap to get a blue tooth one and I cant see/hear the one I have (Escort Max). I don't speed (excessively) much anyways

For the gear, i don't consider my safety gear a farkle, I spend the most that I can to get the best protection I can afford. Part of being safe is being comfortable (avoiding hypothermia or heat stroke) so goretex, heated gear, and mesh figures in there (IMO i guess).

Hahaha u guys been no help

And so it begins, throwing more money into components for the bike that it's kbb value

Okay long winter is here, keep thinking about riding, then realize cant do it. And its twice as painful when you recently moved to a new ride, just had few hundred miles on it and had to store it. Then keep watching youtube videos of guys riding and having fun with FJR. That sort of aggravates the strong desire to ride instead of alleviating the pain. Then ..... the choice comes down to the next best thing to do... work on bike. Okay lets do that.. after 2-3 weeks all main maintenance and even detailing is done with. What do we do now. Its only December. Ooohhh i know,, lets BUY more stuff for the bike and start with the dayum FARKLING ...... noooooo I already spend close to 20% of the used bike price on buying more stuff to add to the bike, and i have a feeling i am gonna end up doing more if the winter aint gonna end soon.

..... ebay...amazon...forums...craiglist.... sooo many options
how do you guys curb your enthusiasm to farkle or get rid of the itch to do that. i know .. like say NO like a mature adult... but still wonder if anybody had a good justification to keep adding stuff. A secret theory to get rid of the guilt. Like thinking it can all be sold off later? How do you basically survive the winter. Just wax and polish every other week or so ?

I feel your pain, man.

Just grabbed a 2004 FJR1300 ABS and only got about 350 miles in

before the weather went south. Snow storm here in Buffalo, NY today.

The party is over.

I can help you with that. Just stick those babies back in the box, ship 'em south, and I'll take the kbb hit. JS.

Lol, nice. I've been meaning to get over that way. Maybe after the holidays.

I stopped fakling my old ST when there wasn't any more room for anything.

I'm not quite there yet on the FJR. Close though!

@AdamK - dude when are you going to update your list? I'm almost caught up!
I'm a member of Farklers Anonymous (FA) now. The first of the 12 steps is admitting you have a problem. When I sold my ST and moved to an FJR I made a promise to myself to never fall back into that dark place. I'm trying to maintain just the bare minimum of farkles I require. ;)

Woooow That's a big freaking list of farkles :) I feel like I am healed already. You are building a small spaceship haha

Phuh. I have to walk around the bike sometimes and point things out to myself so I can remember what I've added or modified.
