The Connie is famous for locking the rear wheel even with slight brake application. Which is one of the reasons I got rid of mine. After an accident from a locked rear tire on the Concours, I never want another bike without ABS. That alone makes the extra money for the FJR worth it (how much do skin grafts go for these days anyway?)

Not to mention, you get fuel injection, stronger more powerful 4 pot brakes, more engine hp, electric windshield, better suspension with more adjustability, smoother engine, better headlights.

One of my previous bikes was a '97 Concours, on which I put 38,000 k. I agree with Fred's comments. The Connie is a good bike but the FJR is better in every respect with the possible exceptions of fairing protection and more upright seating (after I had my bar modified by Heli). The extra money would soon be lost through upkeep etc.

I owned a 95 connie for 10 years great bike. Had a blast with it. Ordered a 05 FJR about a year ago without test ridding one. About a week after I ordered my FJR the owner of the Yamaha Dealer let me ride his. It SURPASSED my expectations!. The connie is a great bike spend the extra $4,000.00 and buy the FJR. The FJR is light years ahead in everthing. I find myself looking for any reason to ride this bike.

it was so interesting to read all the comments on the connie vs FJR. I bought the first Connie in 1986 that came to our dealer...rode it for about 6 months and parked it and would NOT get back on it. Traded it in for the 1986 Ninja 1000R. Last year my husband decided I needed another sport/tour bike...wanted me to sell my loved ninja (yes, I kept it all those years and it looked like it rolled off the show room floor). He starts looking at connies again! I was so adamant against another sport/tour bike that I didn't even want to look at the FJR. But our local dealer had an 05 FJR and allowed me to take it out for a ride. I was so impressed I bought it! No comparison between the two. I'm sure many people loved their connie...but it didn't fit me and it just wasn't what I was looking for. FJR is the only way to go if you want a true sport/tour bike.
