I have been looking to buy a FJR for the past few months, and may have come accross a deal that just sounds WAY to good to be true. The bike is a 2005 FJR 1300, with 15,000 miles on it. I have not actually seen the bike yet, but from, some pictures, it looks like it is in very good condition. Owner says it has never been in any accidents, or layed down. Has Avon tires with 1K miles on them.

My question is what specific things should I be looking at? This deal sounds just awsome, but I want to make sure I'm not buying a lemon.

I've never EVER heard of an FJR that was a "lemon". Never. And 15K miles on these bikes is nothing.

Hard to say whether your deal is too good to be true because you didn't tell us anything about the price of the bike, or whether it has any aftermarket accessories on it.

More than likely, an '05 (and really any FJR, like my '04 that's still for sale in Indiana) is going to be a great deal.

Dollar amount would be important along with condition. Get back to us. Mileage is nothing-just means the bike was ridden and not stuck in a corner of the garage.

It has the Y.E.S. until '09. The owner is being relocated overseas, and is willing to sell me the bike for....get this $2000.00.

To good to be true?

:drag: :drinks: Being the cautious person I am, that sounds too good to be true. Even if I was being relocated overseas, I know I could get four to five times that on the open market, even if I left it with a friend to do for me

Exactly. Even a stealership would be willing to rip the seller off by buying the bike for 4 times that amount.

Definatly too good to be true. Run the VIN, see if it's stolen or re-built. Even a rebuilt wreck I would expect to go for more!

If everything else is legit, listen for a valve train tick!

I'm pretty sure you could sell off the parts on the bike for a lot more than $2000, so there's no big risk. If the thing moves under its own power and the title is clean, I'd go for it myself.

so is this the rest of the story being i am going overseas can you wire the money overseas ? Sounds like a scam a lam a ding dong . and is it on ebay

where is the bike located ? storage container, garage , ?

Thanks for the information on the "Tick." Obviously, I don't plan on giving the owner one stinking penny until I have seen, ridden, and have had the bike inspected. Good thought on having the VIN number run to make sure it isn't stolen. Can anyone tell me how I would go about doing that?

Any other mechanical things to look for? I figure at the price I should at least look at the bike, and investigate it further. As TCFJR pointed out, the parts are worth over 2K.

Dude, just have fun with this guy...

It is a scam all the way. There is no FJR for sale... You will never get to see this bike.

Believe that Playa.

You should be able to call the local DMV where it's currently registred (I assume it's got valid plates.) If it's been stolen, it should be reported there by the owner. If the seller isn't interested in giving you the VIN to check, you know it's a scam.

I predict that the topic of using an escrow service to minimize the risk is about to surface in the discussion. The seller is just going to happen to know of one that he heard was pretty good.

Unless you know someone, I don't think you will be able to check if it is stolen by just providing the VIN number. The Police want the bike there when they run it so if it is stolen they can recover it.

If you take the Bike to DMV or any police dept. they will run it for you. (but if it comes back stolen -- it's history)
