Don't be afraid to fly and buy. I came real close to flying all the way to New Orleans to replace my last FJR till I found a sweet deal locally. The one-way fare was only a hundred bucks! And the ride home would have given me a nice proper introduction to my new girl. You have the advantage of being kind of in the middle, too, for what it's worth. No place in the US is as far from Texas as N.O. is from here. And there are good deals all the time on used bikes in this economy--which I know from taking a bath on selling my KLR last spring. Use the time you're spending saving your dough to really dig for bargains. You'll find one already set up just the way you'll want to farkle your own somewhere, and don't overlook the money you'll save on used farkles when you're price shopping. Good luck. yep...and there are lotsa Feej peeps here who will do much to help out in their locale if you visit their world to pick up a bike.

There's a brand new zero miles Black Cherry '07 for sale at the local stealership. I love doing deals that spend other people's money.

Come over to Nawlins' and I'll give ya a bed and some home cooked grub (and you can treat me to a seafood poboy and some Barq's root beer) for your trouble. Might even ride with you half way home as an excuse for me to get on the road. Or better yet, I'll ride as far as 500 miles with you back so I can register the ride as my SS1000 Iron Butt certification trip !!! :yahoo:

I'm not sure if the V-Strom is as capable two-up.

The "Vee" is very capable of two-up touring bike.

Some will argue so is the Wee. "For me" The Wee just didn't have enough power to be considered a 2 up touring bike. The bike can do 75 all day, but two-up at that speed there is not enough reserve power to get you out of trouble at the twist of the trottle if needed.

I own both a Wee and GenII 06 FJR. Regarding the Wee, ScottyUSN nailed it. On the other hand, I know many 2-up couples on the 1000 strom that have no problem keeping up until the pace reaches +120. If I could only have one bike between the two, it would be the Wee, but I like to explore off road, find the little creeks and lakes and what not that the FJR is uncomfortable to take. On the other hand, if you're looking for big road trips, the FJR is unbeatable. Didn't help much, did I?

The FJR is a winner and worth the wait. If you can get a V-Strom for a great price, then buy it now and ride while you continue to save, then sell it and get the FJR.

I had a Wee and really liked it. I also agree with most of the comments of Vee owners above. I would say you'll simply find out it's a bit too tall and you'll want something "better". I next had an ST1300, and then a Goldwing.... all for good reasons at the time to keep spousal unit happy. One day I sat on an FJR by mistake.... I found it lighter more flickable, and the more I ride the more I love it. So, whatever plan you had for the FJR, stick with it and wait.

To the OP: Get what makes ya hard. You'll fall in love faster and longer. Stop worrying and take the plunge. It's better than getting married -- you get a loser & you can at least sell the bike.

Hey Bananaman when I went to the dealer I was determined to purchace a VStrom. The dealer asked "What type of riding will you be doing?" I told him that I was going to go and visit all of North America! So he pointed out that I really needed to look into the FJR. I have never looked back!!! My dealer sells Yamaha,Suzuki, Kawasaki and KTM. You won't be disappointed.

Get it. I have owned lots of bikes. Funnest ride by far I have ever owned. One up two up its all good. Once saw a dude who had owned Harleeeess test drive an FJR at my fiends cycle shop. You should have seen the look on his face when he came back. And the suspension probably was not even set up right yet.!!

I joined the forum in September 2005. Three years later... almost to the day... I bought a new FJR.

What a righteous ride! It was worth the wait.

Had a nice V-star. Rode it for 3 weeks. Took a ride on my pals FJR, sold the v-star and bought a brand new FJR literally a week later. Since put 10k miles on a year at least.

I have owned several bikes and drooled over a Road King lots of times, however still do... for me, the bike I luv and best ever had is my 05 FJR

82 Goldwing 1100 cc

96 Aspencade GL 1500

and now my 05 Yamaha FJR I have added various farklers and just love it. Light, EXTREMELY fast... I love this bike... man it IS WORTH WAITING FOR..

I own a Mazdaspeed Miata that is quite fast, and debated on selling the bike but nope.. .I would just be looking for another one.

I owned a Vee for a season - Great bike - quick, handled great and alot of fun

Did alot of 2 up on it and was fine. That 1l twin has a whack of pull.

They had an issue with the tranny in the 05 I owned but would not warenty it and told

me to ride it to failure and they would then fix it. I sold the bike and probably will never own another

Suzuki because of that.

I had a ST1100 after that and it was fine - did everything just right but you couldn't get any more boring

Then I spotted a FJR while I was on a trip into the States and I thought - Hummm whats that?

Did a little investigating on the bike and sold the ST and 30000km later I have never regretted my choice

I will say the Vee was a hoot and if it was not for the trany issue may still be riding it.

On ya I put a hitch on it and went 2 up with a trailer and the thing did just fine - shitty trany and all

As an owner of both, an FJR1300AE and a DL-650ABS, both 2007, let me clarify this list:
FJR Pro's

1) FJR is the better touring bike

2) FJR handles better on super slab

3) FJR has more power

4) FJR has better brakes Disagree on this, they simply have a different feel.

5) FJR is more comfortable 2 up

6) FJR has better weather protection

FJR Cons

1) It's a heavy bike, but a lower center of gravity

2) It's more expensive

3) Low Speed handling takes some finesse and clutch feathering (absolutely)

Strom Pros

1) Inexpensive (relatively)

2) VERY capable around town bike

3) Is a BLAST to ride

4) for one up touring is very capable

5) Cheaper to run

6) Super easy to work on compared to the FJR

Strom Cons

1) Smaller motor

2) can do 2 up, but really not practical disagree

3) Doesn't have luggage capacity out of the box

4) does not handle as well as the FJR Completely Disagree, the Strom is highly flickable. If you like riding twisties, strom wins, hands down

5) Minimal weather protection

6) SEVERE BUFFETING ISSUES FOR MOST, but I also have a buffeting problem on the FJR
