Waiting is difficult but as mentioned the FJR is worth it. I drooled for 3 years looking at FJR's and finally had enough to pay cash for a new 06. Annnnnnnd a happy wife makes your life happy. PM. <><

I had a 99 Super Glide Sport .. ah she was a sweety , wait for the FJR it's well worth it.

I still ride my Street Glide when I'm in the mood to kick back , but the FJR is flat out addictive.

By all means, WAIT!!!! The FJR is an amazing motorcycle, incredibly capable. Just wait, wait, wait - it is worth it. I've been waiting since 2003. Anticipation just heightens the sweetness!

i have a friend who had a DL1000. she sold it and got the DL650. she just sold it and got the NT700V because she hated all the maintenance required to keep the DL's working in top form.

let's put it this way in my experience

my lil cruiser was too small for touring and two up

my Goldwing was too boring

my Feej is so much fun, I rode my Saddlesore 1000 miles in 24 hours yesterday and it was a walk in the park

my wife wanted a Goldwing so we could comfortable ride together...she knew I wanted the Feej for myself, but after her first ride on the back

she asked me if we could do triple digits just so she could say she went that fast on a bike

she says she likes the Feej much better than the Goldwing...it's just as comfortable and much more fun and exciting

I'll probably never own any other bike other than a Feej...and I firmly prefer a Gen I with ABS...they go and stop the fastest :yahoo:

Just saw this thread again. Forgot about it actually.

Well, I found a 2004 DL650 locally for a GREAT price ($2800). I've added some bags, bigger wind shield and an Audiovox cc. I like it a lot.

We haven't done any real long distances on it yet, but it's pretty comfortable for now.

I'm thinking this bike will be kept for quite awhile and used for in town riding and commuting to and from work after I get the FJR someday. (still lusting for one) See you guys on the road!

Waiting? Sheesh, some of the early FJR buyers had to place $500 as front money and wait months to see their new FJR.

I shall refrain from "Waiter Baiting" which was quite fun and a rite of passage for new owners.

I'd bet you might be assimilated in a year or two. When I decided to ride again after a nearly 30 year "hiatus", I bought a Kaw Versys 650, and added all the accessories to make it a light tourer. Put 13 k miles on it in a little over a year. I did go touring, day rides, commuting, running errands etc., etc.. The Versys is very similar to the DL650. For me, it was a good decision to ease back into riding on this type of bike.

I started lusting for an FJR about 2 months after I got the Versys, and finally found one this past January. An '06 with only 590 miles on it. After one ride on the FJR I knew I'd made the right decision.................WOW!

I sold the Versys. I do miss it for running to town, but not that much, because the FJR is very capable for errand running, commuting, and for me handles very well in parking lots, etc..

is not a long distance tourer it dose'nt have the power to pass 2up but you'll finded it out soon enought, you can let her ride it and get the FJR for your self. :lol:

The feej is a great all-around bike. The power, handling, and looks are superb. I still get looks and comments from others. If you and your wife are looking for mostly comfort and amenities then consider a goldwing or a road king. The wing is a bigger and heavier bike and can't perform like the feej... but it's designed for other areas.

Except for my recent episode of can't-change-a-tire the feej is not difficult to work on for farkles and maintenance. The wing and king will be more $$.
