I'll definitely want a tail bag and all the mounting gadgetry that goes with it for the new bike. I like to be able to carry a lot of stuff, and a lockable case would be a step up from the cloth bag I had on the Gen I.

I understand any Gen II mounting plate will fit the Gen III tail, so that's a plus. But unless somebody has a red one to sell, I think I'm looking for a basic black.

Still need to find a good tank bag. Not too huge, but not too small, either. You know--just right. Mounting-ring style preferred but maybe magnetic, and with a map window.

FWIW - You can get a (very close to) matching colored lid for a V46 trunk. I like mine (moved it from the '05 and changed the lid color) and got the SR rack. Highly recommended.

Love my Bags-Connection sport bag https://www.twistedthrottle.com/bags-connection-evo-sport-quick-lock-tankbag-for-sw-motech-gascap-mounting-system as well as the additional map case: https://www.twistedthrottle.com/bags-connection-map-holder-for-quick-lock-tankbags.

Very true and the V46 can be had for less money than the V47. The V47 latch mechanism is more user friendly but if money is a factor, there is no difference in quality that I can see.

I will caution that hppants has been miserably unsuccessful in finding the red color matched lid for his V46. The first one he had suffered some cosmetic damage during his crash in Colorado.

Givi does offer a paintable lid cover and Garauld is only a PM away.

I like pictures as much as words so:

The SR357:

The SR357 with the V47 Tech:

The V47 on the '15 and the V46 on the '07. Both mounted on SR357s.

The color matched lid on the V46, also on the SR357:

Yes, it is a bit of cash but for lockable, waterproof storage the Givi is hard to beat. Since the saddlebags are about 30 liters each the capacity of the 46 liter top box is substantial and quite impressive.

Great info from all of you. Thanks. Redfish, is that last pic the "miserably unsuccessful" color matching job you mentioned? Looks great in the pic. Doesn't look like Louisiana, though.

I already PMed this to Mike, but for anyone else following along...

The Givi V46 lids are available in a very close color match to the 2014 FJR red. The lid that you want is Givi part number C46R301 which they call Candy Apple Red. I bought mine from Amotostuf.com. They had the lowest price at the time, but there seems to be a number of places that have them now (Google is your friend)

Here's my photos of the trunk's color match:

No sir. That is the correct lid, now deceased. Mr. hppants is riding around with the dull black plastic now.

For a bit of forum history, when Mr. Fred W got his awesomely wonderful 2014 ES and began his customization, he wanted a color matched lid. There was a forum discussion and I called the Givi Distributor in North Carolina for information. I was told that the red Givi lid is a match for the 2008 Honda ST1300 but that the only difference was in the color of the metallic particles. Honda used gold, Yamaha used silver, or vice versa. Fred ordered his lid and we all got those wonderful pics he just reposted.

As a gift to hppants for dragging Pop and I behind him Out West last year I got him that red lid. It made the bike look so much better in the pics for the Ride Report. Unfortunately, that lid died with the bike. He has been searching for a replacement and says he cannot find one. I have not been involved.

At any rate, you see some options. No offers from anyone wanting to part with their stuff yet... And I am Very Happy with my setup. Pop did not want a top box. Now, he never takes the Givi off the bike. Never.

Big day for SacBike! Thanks to this thread, in one day I got PMs on a great looking Cortech tank bag and a very cherry looking Givi 52 trunk with the mounting plate and Admore light kit. Rode down to Tracy CA (~60 miles), bought it and mounted it. The tank bag's in the mail. Need a mounting ring now. One day! How ABOUT this place!

p.s., the top case is black, and it looks great with the red bike. IMO anyway. (Goes with the tires. They're also black.)

Glad you like the black lid, Mike, cause I do not think the Maxia E52 lids come in any colors besides black or silver.

Of course you could always fall back on the Garauld option if you decide later you want it to match.

And yeah, we are like a bunch of amped up crack heads and the forum is our flop house, sharing our farkle addiction with all the other junkies.
