The 2004 4Runner needs new sneakers. I don't think I want to spend Michelin bucks on this deal, and the Yokahama price seems to be fairly attractive. Any opinions on the quality of this brand?

My oldest daughter is almost as frugal as I am. She did a bunch of research when her Chevy needed tires and decided on Yoko's as the best tire for the money. Not the cheapest, but the most performance and mileage for the money. She's had them on there for about eight months, through the snowy season, and is very happy.

I don't think a thread of "What kind of tires are best?" can ever end

FWIW, I like this site for tire research, what fits, price, tons of reviews & ratings, etc...

I bought my last 3 sets of tires from them.

Yes, that's where Danielle got her Yoko's. Her boyfriend has access to a changing machine and balancer.

I recently did the whole tire replacenment exercise and I'm a little fussy about tire performance/value issue since they're usually on the vehicle for several years.

I agree that Michelin prices are high. I ended up buying Firestones for my 1/2 ton Chevy truck. Firestone got a bad rap after the whole Explorer crash and burn circus afew years back. (hope none of you were affected by that). As such they don't command top shelf money for their products. I'm on my second set now and very happy so far. Excellent grip in wet and snow, not too noisy on the highway. LT rated for when I need the cargo capacity (Load Range C, 50 psi tire)

The model I have is the Destination A/T LT245/75-16. They also make an Destination LE model with less aggressive tread. I think they were less than $150 each mounted and balanced.

To answer the question, my Dad had Yokohamas on his F250 at one time and had no issues but ended up switching to Toyos for their long life reputation.

Sorry to highjack thread.

I have mounted 051 Yako on my wifes full size montero and really happy with the decision. Just what ever you do NOT get 039. They were an original tires and I could not wait to get them off. 51 is like night and day comparing to 39.

H/T-S G051

I had a set of AVS ST on my truck a while back. Grip and handling were impressive, but sounded lik a 4x4 going down the road. IIRC I got about 23k miles out of them.

Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't dick around with the decision and got a set of the Yokos put on. I DID get the 051 as recommended. I can tell you this much, the 4Runner came stock with the dunlops and by the time they had about 33k on them they became like skis going downhill on snow. I have noticed so far while driving home from the tire store, that the Yokos are a much quieter, better handling and better riding tire than the Dunlops. I think that I will be pleased with this tire choice

Thanks for the input.
