Glad it helps. You should be able to use some good grease and if the existing bearing seals are in good condition, use them. Otherwise, get a set of OEM head bearing seals out of the parts fiche.

Okay, checking dcarver's post, he did use new seals. In this post, (good tools and torque specs) the original seals were reused LINK So it looks like you can reuse the Yamaha seals.

A taller seal that will fit is Suzuki 51644-12C00 in the Suzuki catalog, and you can buy it from Deland Suzuki for $7.68 each. You need 2 of them. If you want a larger seal like the All-Balls, then this might be an alternative.

Screw the professionals, they are not. I have little use for them. Many others feel the same. I truly hope if you use them you don't get fooked like I and others have.

IMHO a little "notchiness" does not mean it has to be done right now. I understand you're busy-ness, but I'd wait until after the madhouse subsides and do the work myself.

I hear you loud and clear, rbentnail. But, The guy who does all the FJR work at the dealer is straight up and knows his stuff. We've become friends over the years. We talk all the time. I've been a wrench turner my whole life and he's done the same. He knows that I know what he's doing and what I expect him to do. I've run into a few guys that fit the description you mentioned. They've dealt with me bending them over and spanking their *****. I'm the customer at that dealership that No One ***** with. I actually got the service manager fired two managers ago. Long story but, trust me on this one. I'm good with them. Thanks for the advice anyway. :)

I'm actually going to wait until after the Key West run in a couple of weeks to get it done. I'll do it before I head off to EOM. :)

Looks like you've made your decision. Oh well. I was looking forward to hearing how the project went. At least this way, it'll get done quick and easy. Hope this goes well for ya. Have you made the final decision to go ahead with the standard bearings?

Yep! I'm going with the tapered bearings. Mechanically, they make more sense. :)

When you checked the forum for bearing replacement, you should have seen a company on the east coast that made a set up and can buy from them. It is called All Balls bearings a complete set both bearings and seals for a good price. You will be happy that you went with the tapered set.. I was when I changed mine several years ago...
