I'm 8 days out of major surgery and less than 3 weeks from heading to Taos. I had hoped to ride from NE Missouri to the meet, but in an honest assessment of how I look in the mirror now (all belly, bones and balls) and the fact that I don't recover as fast as I used to requires a plan B.

So my worst case is trailer my Wee Strom to Taos, next worst is trailer my FJR to Taos, or, best case trailer as far as Walsenburg, and then get in an extra half day out and back on a bike to Taos.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where I could park my Jeep and trailer in or around Walsenburg, I would appreciate the info. I would need to drop the stuff on Wednesday afternoon and pick it up on Sunday afternoon, and then head merrily eastbound across Kansas. I don't mind paying for a secure storage spot, but need access on a Sunday.

Thanks for all replies.

zzzzip, Two of the very nicest people on our FJR Forum are Mr. and Mrs. pinhead, Dave and Kyndall! I would suggest a PM to them for their advice. Also consider a PM to TellurideFJR.

For what it's worth: Best Western Kachina Lodge in Taos, New Mexico has a huge parking lot and there would be no problems with your parking a truck and a trailer on their property!

Thanks for trying, Don, but zzzzip has met me and knows the truth. Furthermore, we don't have parking any more. We sold our house about 6 weeks ago and are living in a small apartment right now. Our own cars are parked out on the street.

Skip, good luck with the heeling.

Skip, then I'd just recommend you bring whatever bike you prefer and your rig/trailer, and we will help you unload and load it up in Taos, New Mexico; so you don't strain anything. If this is the direction you take, just let us know, and Dan and I will notify Cheryl of the BW Kachina Lodge!

What kind of Mota are you smokin?

Gunnison is like twice as far away as Walsenburg, as well as Telluride. Plus, where the hell is he going to find room to park a Jeep and trailer in Telluride?

You're a screwy *******!

Well, if you must know, you nosy *****: It is a richly blended toke of Oaxacan, Sinsemilla, and Maui!

I talked to Cheryl a few weeks ago and there's no sweat with parking. I was just trying to get another half day ride in if I felt like it.

I will probably just drag it all the way to keep it simple. Not as much fun, but that's life... of which I have now been assured I will have more of.

Thanks all-- except you sonic.

I'm about two hours north of Walsenburg in Colorado Springs, and can offer my driveway (the jeep and trailer would have to be parked side by side...driveway not nearly long enough to leave it hooked up).

You are a bit off my planned route but I certainly will keep you in mind.

At the moment things are real "iffy" (to use the medical term my doctor quoted regarding the pathology report) and I may have to drive all the way if I go at all.

Thank you for the offer.

I hope that all works out for you Skip. :clapping:

I mean that...that the surgery is successful, and the recovery is quick so you can take this trip.

Somebody's got to kick beemerdons in the nuts...it might as well be you.

zzzzip, you will have to get in line and get a ticket; that's a popular event!

Sooooo....make it a fund raiser! :yahoo:

Well, no need for a parking space this year. I'm having to bail out again. Didn't get in good enough shape soon enough.

Thanks for the offers.
