Panama Canal Crosser
So I'm doing kinda a ride slash trip report KJ styleeee
Weds AM. First up was getting there, hey I was a lot closer than most! (I met some Oklahoma and several Illinois fine folks!)
Googy planned it out and it looked like with some normal stops it was going to be a full day, and it was...
Went with one of my buddies Stan (aka Steamer) on his Honda CBR600, so first up was to pack the bikes up and roll... his was a prophylactic waterproofing job, required some Afro engineering...
1st stop was to fill our bellies, from my many snowmobile trips through the Adirondacks I knew we had to hit Van's Tavern in Barneveld NY (foothills of the 'Dacks on Rte 12) For burgers you get 2 choices, Big and F'n Bigger. I went with just Big and it still padded out a full pound, I added swiss and mushrooms and talk about frugal places to eat? The Big Burger, Fries AND with complimentary desert is only $5.99 Love the Mom & Pop that run the place too, this is always a must stop when traveling through.
So we come into Stowe to the Commodores Inn (I was a newbie!) around 7pm
We checkout the lineup and got checked in
Happy Hour NERDY style so we walked to the store (right next door) and got a cooler full of beer. Then it was off to the pond for some NERDS BBQ (this was just the start of a 5lb. weight gain this weekend! lol). An easy $5 donation and the organizers were more than accommodating, good eats and good gab session!
Next morning (Thursday) Stan and I met up with Ray (RaYzerman) and his g/f Jill. They are Canadian (eh?) and we felt we fit right in with their way of thinking... good ride, good sights then good beer (afterwords of course)
Stan - Lee - Steamer
After a stop, Ray detects my cans aren't in stock condition anymore.... did the Trooper Stage 1 mod (n maybe more to come?)
Most VT. homes looked quite normal to me but this one stood out, there were antiques (or junk) in every window, weird.
Ray's GPS kinda blipped out on us so had a side bar stop to get straightened out
Upon checkin at the Commodores we asked the desk clerk where was some of the local sightseeing thingy's. She said the Ben n Jerry's Ice Cream factory just down Rte 100. So when we got back from Thursdays ride, off to the factory...
For $4 I thought it was worth it as it including a tasting afterwords but I would probably skip it again, we were not allowed pics in the factory (plus no friggn beer flavors! wtf!)
We get back from our little tour just in time for the Happy Hour BS session Thursday nite style
Friday AM, time to gander up some riding partners. Scott came over to talk to me about my bike and I conjured up a ride with (OK, u guessed it) more Canadians! yahoooo! We were going to ride all day, see lots of New England-ess places and then drink like rock stars!
1st stop (as in yesterdays ride and I'm not complaining) is Smuggler's Notch. We were now being led by Phillip eh? and he knew we wanted some images to prove to our g/f's at home that we actually did something besides drink! ...man, I think everybody in our whole NERDS group fell in love with the Notch!
This quaint NE roadway is home for the Vermont Round Church....
Scott tells the Deacon (who was giving us the short tour) that their pews (seating) reminds him of the penalty box in hockey. He goes on to tell her that they call it the "Sin-Bin" in hockey. She was about 75yrs old and was quite amused.
So she turns to me and asks if I wanna lay down a sermon up at the pulpit. I'm like why me? Do I look like the crazy one in the bunch? OK, well you didn't have to ask me twice. She grants and ordains me (temporarily of course) Minister status so I proceed to deliver my best Billy Graham "dynamic and dramatic" sermon....
Had so many laugh's with the Deacon we had to go upstairs and explore some more, looking down on Phillip and Scott...
Next up was to do the Gaps, this is the APP Gap (where the Appalachian Mtns end)
Steamer...
Paul, KJ, Scott looking for some beer falls
Found em but there was no beer flowing on them (today anyway)...
Friday nite was awards and banquet nite at the Commodores Inn
I invited 'awesome Charlie' to come over and enjoy some of the good service we were getting at the dinner service. She thought she was going to get in trouble until I told her it's OK, I'm friends with the owner (Yeah ok!) Charlie almost pulled her off my friggen lap. And yes, I could of stood up afterward's. Cute but too young, I did invite her to the jacuzzi that nite however as I just had the need to see that tight little ass in a bikini
Sat am... time to get a move on home as we have an engagement back home for a Wine-Fest '12 concert on our lakefront (That would be Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes NY)
Always time for sites on the way home... Brandt Lake next to Lake George
Loon Lake (foothills of the Adirondacks)
Lake Pleasant pic from roadside at Speculator NY
We finally get back to Geneva, NY for Wine Fest. 10 bands played, we were in time for the last one... who cares it was a NERDY weekend!
Several thousand lined the lakeshore Finger Lakes wine-fest. My spot if front of the band looking back...
Afterhour party with the band and groupies, yeah KJ knows some peeps ...If I look a little blitzed, well it was a long weekend!~
Sunday when everybody else was coming home... I went to a Sunday Brunch at Belhurst Castle, a few Bloody Mary's all inclusive so why not?... went by boat of course!
NERDS was really a lot of fun, great meeting everybody and the one's I didn't ...hopefully next venture!
Cheers all!
