OK, so as we talk this thing through, and the votes roll in, a few things become apparent:

1) I wasn't giving proper consideration to the 'Dacks Ride weekend that Road Runner puts on in early June. People should be able to get their 'Dacks roads fix then, so NERDS probably shouldn't duplicate it, especially since many of go to that ride too!

2) Maine is nice and scenic, but lets face it, the roads up there are congested along the coast, and brutally rough away from it.

3) Western Mass Berkshires is just too small of an area.

4) Having so many alternative locations to Stowe is diluting the "should we stay or should we go" decision.

So with that said, I am modifying the Poll to be just either return to The Commodores or find a new location in the White Mountains of northern NH. I think we could probably find someplace with similar amenities to the Commodores up there. The point in moving it would be the ride routes beginning in NH could still include some of the nicer northern VT roads on the longer jaunts, or over into north western Maine's mountain sand lakes region, but would also be some new scenery for the command central.

There are a bunch of nice scenic roads in NH and the mountains are actually larger and more rugged than in VT. Plus we have a few roller coasters that everyone should experience at least once, not to mention the ride to the top of Mt Washington. We might even want to to come up with a "Twin Peaks" challenge for the more adventurous types, riding up to the summit of Mt Washington and then riding up Mt. Kearsarge, which is a good ways away, and requires a short 1/2 mile hike to reach the true summit.

Since I modified the choices in the Poll form, if you previously voted for one of those now deleted choices you can vote again! I guess what it comes down to is what I said above:

Do we stay or do we go?

Another round at the Commodores in Vermont or find someplace new (and hopefully similar) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Fred, I finally get around to an answer and noe the question is different. Go figure. But actually my answer doesn't change much.

I think that the Commodore's Inn was/is a terrific establishment to host this event. The portico parking, the dining room facility and dining operations are perfect for NERDS. Two places to buy beer and wine within 300 yards. How many decent lodging places would let that crowd of shady folks clutter up their front entrance for several evenings such as we did? Not no mention leaving a pile of empties on the doorstep whose deposit/salvage value approach the GNP of Greece. Ditto for the BBQ outside Wednesday. Yessir, the Commodore's is a gem.

But I understand that variety is the spice of life and I wholeheartedly agree that the northern Whites would make a great NERDS detination as well. There are many roads up that way that I do enjoy riding on. When you asked about alternatives to Stowe my first reaction was to consider the Northern wites on NH and western Maine. I was trying to picture something in the N.Conway NH to Bethel-Rangeley Maine area. Lots of good roads that way (if frost heave damage is repaired) and once you get away from the real touristy places.

But don't have a real preferance. I'm lucky enough to ride the NH and ME roads fairly often. I loved the Stowe location and all the great rides originating and ending there. I'd have no problem with a threepeat there.

Also, I know that the THaPS participation was less than planned or desired. Sarah and I really enjoyed the 'hunt'. It was very entertaining yet challenging. We laughed thinking about you rally organizers coming up with all the destinations and bonus points and 'in the wild' items. So I hope future NERDS events will include a THaPS type event.

And thanks again to all the 2012 NERDS Organizers. Your hard work paid off- it was a fantastic event!

I haven't attended before, but would love to come next year whether in VT or NH. I told my wife about the event and it is officially on the calendar for next year.

I take it the Fireside Inn in West Leb, NH will not work huh Fred. I do like the NH idea as Maine traffic would be a PITA during the summer.

Tom

I have a crazy idea! Why not do all 3? Daks in early June, Whites in mid July, and Greens in late August.

Good idea!! And I love hearing from volunteers like this. Which one will you be doing? :p

@KJ - NERDS is all three. The Commodores would be the Greens in mid August.

I didn't vote on this one, because I don't feel strongly when choosing between Stowe and the White Mountains. I'm going to attend again next year, whether it's in VT or NH. And the bride and I plan on doing THaPS this time. Either location would be a blast, as long as we can get a base of operations that is as acommodating as the Commodores Inn.

Fred, you are correct, all of these are NERDS gatherings. I'd be glad to help in any way possible ;)

My main reason for attending NERDS 12 was to experience a part of the country I had not seen before. I now vote for NH for the same reason.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Stowe but been there done that. Personally find it pretty cool to ride for a couple days and find folks

I know in a place I have never been. But I do know from experience in a prior life, that the majority likes reruns.

I think most of us would be happy with either VT or NH.

IF it's changed up- I have trust in the Head-NERDS to come up with a homebase that everyone will really like. It's probably a small gamble to venture outside of the Commodores and such a tried and trusted area. I hear ya TheZsdad on the majority likes re-runs but maybe it's more of a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" deal.
