Nice ride report, Don... those silos are just that, silos. Meant to store chopped corn silage (or hay, or?), and it is blown in via a big blower at the bottom (which you store away when done). Some larger operations will have automatic unloaders which travel around the inside and dispense the silage at cattle feeding time.

Woke up when the room exploded in brightest flash possible.. yep, Lightening and thunder, the closest I've ever been to a strike. Holy crap, out here in Illinois the lightening actually sizzles for awhile, not just a fast strike. Very impressive.

....and of course, it's raining. Like really hard. and Frog Toggs suck. I was wet within 10 minutes.. Crotch, thighs, calfs, and finally socks. Frogg Toggs suck and I'll NEVER recommend them to anyone who plans to stay dry in the rain.

But I'm through it now, got some awesome pix, I think, and I'm heading to Sioux City, SD, assuming I can my *** outta this MickeyD's in Evansville!

Holed up in Chamberlain, SD after a wet and soggy AM ride.

For the first day ever, actually ran the main and aux tank within .1 gallon dry.

Then I stopped.

Just like Forrest G, my hero.

and part of the storm..

Real lighting,eh? Serious stuff that is.. Too bad about the troggs, always sucks being wet.

Enjoying your trip, posts and pics. Those rain clouds beat the **** out of working.

Oh ya, it was 89 and clear in Grass Valley today :****:

re: The Badlands.

Whenever I see pictures of it all I can imagine is what it must have been like to come upon it in before there were roads. I know that the Dakotas are not on the Oregon trail, but somebody had to have come across this first, and just imagine how strange and desolate it must have felt.

Just cleared Yellowstone - it was utterly unbelievable! A huge bull bison walked within 3 feet of my while on the bike. Yellowstone rangers had blocked traffic as literally a hundred or so bison crossed the stream and then the road. Actually, it was little scary - he was H U G E and I had nowhere to go!

Next stops Ashton, Rigby, Idaho Falls. Got start hoofing it, I'm running short on time.

Kinda like yer nightly trek to the pisser eh Fred???

Fecken early onset altzhimer's
Well, that just shows what you know, BJ. We've had indoor plumbing for 8 months now! :p

I just roll to the side of the bed and the pisser is right there.

Now... what were we talking about? And just who the feck are you?

This is the up close and personal. Ahead of the yellow bus is a parked ranger. He stopped traffic so about 75 bison could cross the road. This bull, a loner, saw me and headed DIRECTLY freaking at me, snorting. I'd not heard any other bison snorting, so I starting to get freaked. "Man killed on motorcycle by mad bison".. I could see the headlines now. He lowered his head and walked FAST heading right at me. I had no where to go. He's blocking the left. To the right, a steep non-ridable 'cliff'. Stuck.

He approached, then stopped, less than 1.5 feet away from me. I was too scared to snap a pix. After about 10 seconds, he turned his head then angled off. Braver now, I snapped this foto. I'm such a chicken ****.

Fear is a good thing sometimes. Those things would **** a Buick just to hear it squeal. You got off lucky. But if it happens again, roll video!

Brother Karl, I first rode into Canada on a motorcycle over Labor Day Weekend of 1975, I was a competitor in the SCMA "Three Flags Classic"; the first of three 3-Flags runs I participated in.

Rally started at the Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico and ended at The Red Lion Inn in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. The British Columbia Road Riders Club co-sponsored the Three Flags Classic with SCMA and I spent a fantastic week riding with those Canadians on the Mainland and over on Vancouver Island.

But all of those decades ago I learned an indelible and irrefutable truth about Canuckistanis. Karl, do you know how to tell if a Frostback is fibbing to you? Their lips will be moving!
